im actually in the midst of rebuilding an old rackable server, theres a catch to its mobo though, 2 4 core xeons, but it will not work together and run SMP 8 or bigadv. so 2 instances of SMP 4 it will be. not as if itll do much, i believe its the older (socket 774 i believe it was) xeons, from the 775 gen processors

Is it bad if my school's IT department is giving me free reign over ONE HUNDRED core i5 2300s until the end of July? I currently have a separate 20 of them going getting 300K+ PPD for OCN for the IT department's username, and they will have much much more in a week's time. I just can't decide if I want to flash them with an ubuntu distro with the 6.34 client and the kraken, or a windows 7 distro with the v7 client. Ideas?

put some under my name? lol jk good on you, i could probably call up my old highschool and college and ask my old teachers ifi can, but im not the imposing type.

most efficient? use notfreds bootable headless folding program.
i use it here at work on all the old machines im running, install it to a usb drive set it up for smp 4 with your user team and passkey, plug it in let it load each one, and walk away.

it runs on the linux kernel and downloads the client on its own.

Yea, dedicated Linux would be most beneficial. Windows really slows these damn WUs down... and with a VM it makes the PC slow to crawl, so that sucks too.

Unfortunately, my son likes to jack my folding up whenever I have Linux up he restarts to Windows. :/

if you run notfreds diskless and leave the USB stick plugged in, you can set itto save a checkpoint every 3 minutes, so if he reboots, you can continue the unit later.

any other questions about the diskless program hit my PM box with them.

and an FYI, its called diskless because all you need is a mobo thats usb bootable, cpu, ram and psu, no HDD required

and an FYI, its called diskless because all you need is a mobo thats usb bootable, cpu, ram and psu, no HDD required

So let me ask you...if I DL this, put it on a bootable USB, set the computer to boot from USB, and run this, will there be any trace of it on the HDD in the computer that is installed? Will it save to the USB drive, etc?

Not sure if this version runs off of a RAM disk or the USB drive but I remember someone reported a slower TPF with the USB drive as it was taking awhile to write. Also keep in mind that depending on your internet speed the uploads/downloads may take longer as they could be limited by the USB drive. If it creates a RAM disk and runs off that it should be nice way to run in linux.
