Without using the 2, clearly the i7-quad is much faster - it's very similar to the desktop i7-920. AMD's mobile quads really compete with mobile i5 dual-cores (in price and multi-threaded performance). Single-threaded performance gives you that really snappy feel - suppose you have a 3ghz dual and a 2ghz quad, all else being the same, the dual will feel much faster for typical use.

I know the Intel processor is faster in that way, but I was having the A8's superior graphics in mind.

Who said A8's graphics were faster than HD 4000? http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7640G.69836.0.html
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-4000.69168.0.html
Anandtech tested as 7660G/ A10 graphics being 20% faster than i7-quad's HD 4000, though A10 graphics beat the HD 4000 by 50% or so in a couple games.. Now, note the i3's have a 10% lower-clocked HD 4000 (also applies for some ULV models, minimally the i3's), so they'll be roughly another 10% behind i5/i7 HD 4000. Also note, only standard-voltage A10 has 7660G graphics; A8's have less graphics power (256 SP's compared to 384 in the A10), putting them far behind A10 and slightly behind HD 4000, as seen in the links above.
