FX 6100 OC help

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

I've been trying to OC my FX 6100 to 4.5 Ghz but have been having issues. The make up of my computer is in my sig. Im running window 7 on high performance. I've disabled cool'n'quiet, c1 and s1 (not at my computer atm and i dont remember exactly what those last two were called). I currently have my multipler at 20 x 200 bus at stock voltage. I was trying to increase my multiplier by 0.5 at a ime until it failed and when that happened increase the voltage by increments until it worked. Repeat till 22.5. Well i've been up to 1.5V for 20.5x200 and it still fails. The computer starts fine but freezes within seconds of starting prime95 blend testing.

what am I doing wrong or need to do to make this work?

[Edit] Forgot to mention that my NB is set to 2200 and my HT at 2000.

Any and all help is appreciated,
BATZ1992

well seeing as you have the exact same board and cpu as me. Ill tell you exactly what the max you gan get this stable is...

4300mhz

21.5x200
1.4625V
LLC set to Ultra high(75%)
All power features disabled

With those settings you should be 100% prime 95 stable and is the absolute max this board and cpu will get stable...beleive me Ive tried for like 20 hours trying to get it stable higher then that, but the 970 chipset just cant do it. good luck

Very cool, that worked perfectly! Unfortunately, I don't have adequate cooling though. 15 seconds into P95 and my core tempts were hitting 150F and rising so I turned it off and reverted to 4.0. I'm keeping my eye out for an H80 and maybe then I can push it then. Thanks a lot for you help!
ouch..yeah buddy I just looked and that heatsink can only do 100watts max, id honestly think that the stock heatsink would actually work better in this case...Get a coolermaster 212+ and your good to go for only around 30$. the H80 would be overkill and like 3 times the price

If you want something super stylish, get a Zalman 9900 Max, they canbe found for 60$ when on sale and handle up to 300w. I used to own one and I miss it dearly.

Drop your CPU/NB to 2000 with a voltage of 1.175V (stock values for FX). Leave your HT on auto or set it at 2.6 (again stock for FX). Set the bus to 200 and multi to 22 with a target load voltage of 1.35 -1.3625V. In other words if you have LLC disabled and your V goes up under load set it so that it's around 1.36-1.37V under load. Retest and tell me what it does. Also make sure you're not overclocking your Mem for this test. Set it at 1600 or lower just until you get a stable OC Freq.

Edit - "core temps" (Tcore) are irrelevant. TCase (CPU Temp) is the temperature you need to make sure is not going above 70C.

Bubba found the M5A97 series have issues with raising the multiplier over 20. Keep it under 20 and play with the base clock.

I have managed to overclock the FX nicely keeping the multiplier under 20 along with upping the base clock.

I actually tried the 212+ but the thing was too tall for my case. I think I'll look into the Zalman 9900

I set it up like you suggested and it froze under 5 seconds of P95.

I suppose the 4.0 is fine for now, not like I'm experiencing any lag when playing games, even at stock speeds.

What is your LLC set at and what cpu voltage did you set?

hello Batz,
i would say that you should be able to hit that 4ghz with 1.34v,my bios i have to notch it up 2 strokes to get the 1.34v and a cpu load line on ultra high, that should give you a 1.34v under load too.your temps should be nice at that level.i have an 8 core but i dont see why it should need more or less power to run as the modules are the same.
to everyone,i know there all slightly different but only a step or 2 at best in voltages.

also have you disabled the turbo core?

i can run mine at 1.325v,but uped it a bit,and i cant get to 4200 due to heat.

and forget a zalman air cooler, get some water on it.
