Potalion 2710QW Monitor Club - Page 9

Yep keep us posted! I'm SOL I guess lol...I don't feel like buying a miniDP to dualDVI yet if it won't work, but then again I'd have wasted $319 on this monitor if not! tongue.gif

Thanks for doing this for us! smile.gif

I'm not too sure about the policy in the states but here in Canada, they don't care and don't charge you a cent for returning something. I guess I can cross the Potalion off my list. The Shimian, Catleaps, Crossover 27Q all work with Mac.. (for the most part)...
IT IS THE ACHEIVA SHIMIAN that works best with OS X. I hate the design of the Catleap stand (too high) but at the same time I hate the $450 price range of the Crossover 27Q (pixel perfect)... The Shimian seems to be the best option however, some people have reported that the top bezel covers a few pixels and I personally cannot have that, still looking for confirmation on this though. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
my shaman now works flawlessless with all the macs I have - 2008 MacBook pro, 2011 MacBook air and Mac mini.
Thanks again. That thing is a beauty! - SOAR

The bezel issue is definitely true for everyone I have asked. I can't stand it either.

I'm just lucky I live in the UK, as the currency conversion still makes it a relatively cheap option for me. (The PP crossover)

I just got mine here in Canada. I was going to get the Achieva QH270 then I was convinced on the perfect pixel with the Potalion. I just ran all black test and there are no issues.

I used to have Dell U3011 and U2711 for work and this is good enough for my use. I love not having scrollbar when I have two browsers open side by side.

I am also having problem trying to get the mount off as I have it on monitor arm. I will be calling manufacturer soon to find out how to do that. I unscrewed two philips but it doesn't seem to be enough.

I talked to MFR and you have to disassemble the whole thing to remove it.

Difficulty: easy
Time: 5 minutes

Remove all screwes along the perimeter
400

Remove screws on the side holding the panel. [be careful not to damage backlight at bottom]
400

Slide the panel slightly up and you have access to 6 screws holding the mount
400

Dang, that sucks. I thought the Potalion stand was easily removed without taking the case apart. Oh well. Hopefully the stands will be fine on my desk.

I can testify that Potalion works with OsX Lion out of the box, I have it hooked up to my Hackintosh running 10.7.4 through the dvi with no problem

Then it's the conversion that's touchy...perhaps I'll just buy the Apple branded converter since a lot of people have been having problems with third party adapters.

Success with the Apple adapter!!!!!!

Drove to Best Buy tonight, but they didn't have it in the store. So drove a little further to the actual Apple Store and picked up their Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter. Brought it home and plugged it in and works like a charm. Now have my Potalion as a 2nd monitor hooked up to my 27" iMac. Much better than the 1080p monitor I had before.

I bought the other adapter originally because it was not only cheaper, but also had much better reviews than the Apple-branded adapter. Not sure if I just got a bad unit, or if that brand just doesn't work well overall with OSX -> Korean IPS monitors. Guess I'll be returning it to Amazon.

Anyway, very happy it's working now. Thanks to mikeseth for the help and suggestions.

I guess I'm just going to fork out the extra $50 for the Apple adapter lol and get a (almost) guaranteed working product. tongue.gif
