Help me chose, calling 7970/GTX680 owners!

Here is the deal.

I'm big fan of DCII cards, atm there is no GTX680 DCII avialable where i live, but there is 7970 DCII TOP.

One of my main goals is the obtain minimum 50 fps in BF3 64 players maps, with the next settings.

Ingame = all ultra no FXAA (im using SMAA injector + 2XMSAA)

Drivers =

494

The other settings via drivers are left at defaults, expect for the power control which is 20+

Now, keep in mind i game on 1920x1200, and my fps will be like 3-4 digits less so actually ( need 55 fps from 1080p lcd owners)

Next thing is, the overclocking, lets say 1200 mhz is realistic overclock, even its probably higher, so its tricky, i need someone to test this for me if possible or simulate similar conditions.

Same goes for GTX680, lets say 1200 mhz as well.

The things i change via drivers lower the fps for at least 15% but makes the game look beautiful.

What card can make my wish true? keep in mind i got my cpu mostly at 4.8/5.0 so no bottleneck will be problem, thanks guys!

P.S. I'm asking this cause most of the videos are done with very early bs drivers.

P.P.S. If anyone is willing to do this test, i will be highly grateful.

I can't help you with the BF3 multiplayer question you posted . But since you raised the question of HD 7970 or GTX 680 for a new purchase I can direct you to a good offer.

there is a fantastic deal on XFX HD 7950 DD .

XFX HD 7950 DD - USD 360 with 10% off w/ promo code HARDOCPX613C, ends 6/19 and USD 20 mail in rebate

Nett price = USD 360 - 36 - 20 = 304. can't get any better than this . Maybe they are clearing stock for Tahiti 2 launch at the end of this month.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150588

this card can do 950 Mhz - 1 Ghz at stock volts. with voltage tweaking you can get 1100 - 1150 Mhz. here is a review of the XFX HD 7950 DD Black edition card. that is the OC version.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/03/01/xfx_radeon_hd_7950_black_edition_video_card_review/8

This card is essentially giving USD 500 performance for USD 300. I think its worth the try. In fact you could get a liquid cooling solution from the money you save. It would help you keep the card cool and quiet when you voltage OC.

You are underestimating the HD 7950 card. Anyway if you want top performance with good overclocking capabilites your options narrow down to Sapphire HD 7970 OC Dual X, Gigabyte HD 7970 Windforce for AMD cards. For Nvidia EVGA GTX 680 FTW, Gigabyte GTX 680 Windforce , ASUS GTX 680 DCII TOP.

If it's bf3 then the 680 is a MUST over the 7970.
If it's only for that game then the 680 pulls ahead by far.

Even at the same clocks.
http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/37209-geforce-gtx-680-vs-radeon-hd-7970-clocks/?page=6

That's at the same clocks aswell. It is still pulling a head by alot, if they were both at factory stock's then it would be even worse.

depends on where you are getting your data from. and how objective the tests are . hardocp uses a 10min fraps run. not some 90 - 120 sec run which might bias results towards one set of cards

BF3 2560 X 1600 Ultra 4X MSAA

Sapphire HD 7970 (1280) - avg 50.7 min 34
ASUS GTX 680 (1291) - avg 51.3 min 30
Galaxy GTX 670 (1280) - avg 48.4 min 28

Though the best option for you would be to wait a couple of weeks for Tahiti 2 aka Radeon HD 7970 Ghz edition. expected clocks are 1075 - 1100 Mhz. And they are expected to run cooler than current HD 7970s. if the reviews are positive go for it. thumb.gif

Since you want high-end I'd wait for the 7970 XT2 or the 680 Classified/Lightning to come out later this month. Both should be an improvement over what is available today...
