Cant hit 3000 mhz cpu/nb on fx 8150 please help

Thread Starter
so ive been tinkering with this 8150 since i got it and these samsung 30 nm ram they play very well together ive been able to run them stable at 2100 somthing mhz without ocing ram and proper timing at the moment im runing 1866 and 2600 nb at 4 ghz and not matter what i try i cannot hit 3000 mhz on my cpu/nb so my question is where can i find out whats its max cpu nb i need as much facts about it as i can get before i pit it aginst my 1100T on my set up so far i am liking it Please i dont wanna hear about intel this or that or wait till piledrivers out i really could care less i could easly afford what ever i feel like getting and also im not trying to set this up for gaming i could careless about fps its all about multitasking on this chip thats all im intrested in

Your NB speed is not as relevant with BD as it was with Thuban/Deneb. You don't see the performance gains like you did with Thuban/Deneb. Stick to around 2600 and you will be fine.

If you do your homework you will find that NB speeds dont do as much for these chips as thuban/phenom2 nor do they hit 3000nb very often anyway.

I use 3GHZ NB 24/7 on my FX-4100 with 1.45v.

338

I did not see as much performance scaling as I did with my 1090T with 3GHZ nb, although I do get more bandwidth from higher RAM frequencies.

I hope they fix the cache latency in piledriver.

well i cant say for sure never overclocked a fx chip but drop your cpu down to 14x and your ram down to 1333 and only overclock the np start @ stock voltage then up the nb muti till windows dont load then up the voltage up two then see if window boots if so then kepp doing that with nb till you get stable @ 3000 or above...

i have the same board as you and i find it alot easyer to not use ofset voltage..

for the FX chip your beter off uping your HT and keeping the NB to 2600 and getting your ram up to 2000

Excellent ive been trying to research as much as possible about this chip i want to thank you all for your prompt replies i am runing 2600 mhz at the moment ive mostly been trying to read and understand how cpu/nb works on this chip i understand what works on a thuban isnt gonna work the same on zambezi thumb.gif another thing does hyper transfer play a role in preformance im not speaking of the fbs i think its the hyper transport link the one u dont really set higher than 2000 on thuban

Better image of mine (updated maxxmem shows proper nb speed).

338

I'll need to run some benches comparing HT Link frequencies.

Sandra 2012 seems to be the best bench program to accurately test the FX Chips against other chips, if you haven't used it already.

thats pretty impresive but ur core voltage looks a little hardcore at 1.6v
