First Build - Advice wanted

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to start my first build and some help would be greatly appreciated! I've been lurking for a while and reading up but it's so much to take in all at once and I'm absolutely lost.

What do you all think of this build I've come up with? I'll be intending to do all the usual stuff on it, web browsing, watching movies, gaming etc.

MoBo: AsRock H6M1-HVS $51
CPU: Core i53550/2500k (Not sure if they have the 2500k, it's not listed on their parts pdf.) $217/???
GPU: 1G HD7770 Sapphire $139
RAM: 8GB Kit 1600 Patriot Gamer2 $49
HDD: Seagate 500GB $72
Optical Drive: SATA Blu Ray Combo LG $54
PSU: Cooler Master Extreme Power 500w $55
CASE: Cooler Master RC 371 $44
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium64BIT $90

Moniter, Keyboard, Mouse, Headphones/Speakers not needed.

Total: $720AUD

So, what do you all think? Will it work? Are there any improvements to be made, if so could you point them out for me off this page please? :http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf

As I am in Australia MSY is the only place I can buy from. Ideally I would like this build to stay under $750-$800.

Hey, thanks for your help, I really like that the look of that build.

How much room for expansion does the PSU give me? Would it only just cover the parts or could I Ugrade the CPU or whatever down the line and not have any problems?

Also the 2120 wouldn't hold the 7850 back at all?

the above build psu is just enough for the system having ~ 300W wattage, the 450W will give you enough headroom though the psu only have a single pcie powersupply for the videocard, but since 7850 only have a single 6-pin, its enough, good thing antec neo are effiicient enough.

the corei3 are good cpu especially paired with a powerful videocard, no it will not hold you back, especially in budget gaming.

btw, upgrade the ram later, if its needed and may I know your monitor resolution

That's good to know I've got some room for upgrades down the line.

I'm running on old school 1280x1024 lol. I'll be looking to buy a new monitor a little after I build this unit.

On the RAM, I've seen lots of people on here saying 1600 is the right one to get, will it make much of a difference over 1333?

better get a 1080p full hd resolution monitor, or your 7850 wont get an exercise.

the 1333 ram is SB native memory speed, sad thing is though SB can go higher, the motherboard on the build wont give you such ram higher frequency but the performance wise wont be that significant in real world. so your fine there.

Thanks again for your advice it makes it alot less scary now that i'm confident of doing the right thing. Also, what tools will I need to build this computer? I'm an apprentice electrician so im pretty sure I'll have what I need, but I can never be too sure.

screwdrivers.
a PSU tester never hurts, but you don't need one.

oh, don't forget common sense.
make sure you know everything about processor installation.
it's easy for a newcomer to really mess that one up.
heatsink installation too, can sometimes be a little bit trivial.

newegg has some good videos for beginning builders.

I was thinking I might need to mount the mobo with a drill and make up some brackets as well as a number of other silly thoughts. Are all the screws you need generally provided or should I provide my own?

Thanks for the tip about neweggs videos, I'll be sure to check them out!

everything is pre-available, in the case for screws, cable ties in psu or sata cable in motherboard boxes, stealthybox is right, a simple screw driver is needed and some tip like in newegg youtube videos, especially that un-grounding yourself before touching the motherboard is epic. goodluck in your build
