[Gaming Build] 800€ - 1000€ Budget

Hey there,

I am thinking on building myself a new rig for the summer and for the next 3 years.

Budget: Between 800€ - 1000€
Use: Gaming, Using 3dsmax, maya, for homework and et cetera...
Games to be played: Deus Ex Human Revolution, Witcher 2, Dragon Age II, APB Reloaded, Tribes Ascend, SMITE, Spiral Knights, Team Fortress
Resolution:1920 x 1080
Parts that are going to be reused: WDC 1TB Green HDD (already have)
Shops that I will buying from:
Future ideas: I want this system to last me quite some time 3 - 4 years at least. I might go SLi/CF in the future when the GTX 670 will become overwhelmed.

I would like to have a GTX 670 in the system as it is one hell of a beasty card. I am not sure which to choose.

I was thinking of something like this:
CPU: i5 3570k - 216 €
MB: MSI Z77A-G45 - 109.10 €
PSU: OCZ ZT 750 - 87.20 €
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - 33.44 €
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-222BB - 14.10 €
RAM: Patriot 8GB KIT DDR3 1333MHz CL9 -42.28 €

I am not sure about the case and which GTX 670 to choose.

Are there any ways that this system's price can be dumbed down?

Feel free to give me any suggestions/criticism/advice to make this system be better for me and my budget.

  • Select All Posts By This User
1) Choose 1600MHz RAM. They're just as cheap nowadays and are slightly faster. Go for either G.SKill or Corsair Vengeance RAM.
2) Go for a PSU brand with a name that starts or ends with a C, such as Antec or Corsair. They're almost a guarantee for decent quality.
3) As for a case, I'd go for an NZXT Switch 810, great bang for the buck and a great case too.
4) 3D rendering could make good use of Hyperthreading, so buying an Intel i7 3770K wouldn't be wrong in this case.
5) A GTX 670 will do just fine, defo in SLI mode.

Could you squeeze an SSD in there? WD Green drives are really slow. Your entire computer will benefit from a SSD boot drive. If you can't afford a dedicated SSD boot drive, consider SSD caching for your WD Green. The speed boost from SSDs is night and day vs. a low rpm drive.

I could squeeze in a OCZ Agility 3 90GB SSD - costs about 77.70€ I would have to take the ASRock Pro3 board in that case.

Maybe just go for a cheaper 20-40GB SSD and use it for caching then. It won't be as fast as a dedicated boot drive, but it will definitely speed up that WD Green.
