Bottom Intake fan for mid tower case.

Thread Starter

Hi,i have a CM elite310 case.

I have cutout a hole at the bottom for a bottom intake fan and added 1.5 inch bushes to elevate the case.

i currently have a 120mm CM silent pro fan with a claimed CFM of 43 there with mascool air filter to keep the dust out.

the fan is on the outside, hence there is approx 10mm of clearance between the table top and the fan and the fan doesnt seem to move in any amount of air(a piece of paper barely moves when kept on top of it).

Moreover i have the exact same fan as a front top intake with the same air filter and it moves a quite a lot of air.

so i am assuming that moving air upwards with a small clearance requires a better fan,and this is where i need your help.

Photo of how my bottom fan is set up to make it more clear.

DSC05301.JPG

I need a fan that can move a large amount of air inspite of the 10mm clearance and the air filters.

i had my eyes on these

I live in india hence i dont have a lot of options when it comes to  case fans.

these are the top sites dealing in computer HW in my country.

i would like to keep the cost around or below $15.

First thing you need to do is raise your case so fan can work as intended. Good rule of thumb is fan size minus fan center hub size divided by 2 is absolute minimum clearance for intake on all sides .... that's 35-40mm on a 120mm fan.... 50mm on a 140mm fan.

Fan can not blow air it does not have.thumb.gif

thank you for the input, will look out for taller raisers/bushes for the case.

any idea about what fan should i use?

the bottom intake is for the GPU and it definitely needs much more fresh air more air.

Zalman ZM-F3 is good. I'm using two of them (LED versions for me). One for front intake, one back exhaust. Very strong, good fan.

Raise your case up first and see what happens. The fan you have will probably do just fine.

You can get a yate loon high speed 140mm..

140 CFM

http://jab-tech.com/Yate-Loon-140mm-Case-Fan-High-Speed-D14SH-12-pr-4764.html

The problem with this brand, it is hard to get the real deal as there is so many fakes around... Good fans and cheap as hell

You can change fans till the cows come home, but until you raise your case nothing will help. What you have now is almost as bad as laying the fan on your desk... it can't get enough air from 10mm to even fart properly.biggrin.gif.

Corsair SP120, I have the AF120s and two SP120s on the way. AFs are awesome I'll let you know how the SPs work as I'm mounting them in the same are as you are if you haven't bought fans by then.
