[TechSpot] Apple Tax or Not? Ivy Bridge Ultrabooks vs. 13" MacBook Air - Page 12

Come on... HDD vs SSD, 640LE vs 650M (worlds of difference), no thunderbolt, frightening cooling solution (if the image on vizio's site is accurate), 1lb more...

Don't get me wrong, it's a steal (although the low-end is an i3), but the only thing that comes close is the sager 6110, and that screen and form factor are rough.

Okay.

How many shader cores does the 640M LE have and the 650M?

No.
Clock speed is irrelevant for this question. It shouldn't be impossible to tweak with software like MSI Afterburner.

Also. I'm sure, it being a 2.5 inch HDD, wouldn't be impossible to replace with an SSD of the similar form factor, still without breaking the bank compared with an Apple (can'tuseonlap)laptop. Get real.

You're forgetting that the 640M LE is always going to be running DDR3 vRAM, but the 650M may be running GDDR5.

Yeah... Last I checked nvidia's site states DDR5 is an option but I haven't seen it available. Looking into it, there may even be fermi varieties out there.

Found this too: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5697/nvidias-geforce-600m-series-keplers-and-fermis-and-die-shrinks-oh-my/2

Yes. We know. Basically, the 610m, 620m, 630m, 635m, 670m and 675m are all Fermi based.

..Yeah, it would. You're talking massive differences in bandwidth here (28.8GB/s for the 640M, less than the "Up to 80.0GB/s" of the 650M) and if you think it can't significantly impact bandwidth, I invite you to underclock your GPUs vRAM just to see how much it can.
