Have been out of the hardware game for a while.

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

I am looking to upgrade my sig rig. I am currently only looking to upgrade the CPU, Ram, Motherboard, CPU cooler, and to a nice sized SSD. GPU and PSU will come later this year. Would anyone have any suggestions as to what I should look for? i5, i7? I am looking to spend around $1000 or so, if it can't be done in that budget, I can hold off on the SSD for a while.

Thanks,

Puck

we can start by asking a few questions to help us pick some things out for you.

Do you plan on overclocking?

Is this JUST gaming or video editing/render or 3d things and such? If just gaming i5 is it. If editing and things an i7 is great to have for hyperthreading.

CPU Cooler you can go 3 ways, custom loop (most expensive), Closed loop (corsair H-line and Antec Coolers), and air cooling.

For Aircooling i like the xigmatek dark knight II but a lot will recommend if you can afford A) Any Noctua Coolers Run anywhere from $60-90
B) Thermaltake Silver Arrow

For Closed Loops: The H80 is the best 120mm rad CLC and the H100 is a 240mm rad CLC

SSD wise id recommend a Crucial M4 128gb. They have been on sale a lot lately and you can find them from 114.99-119.99 A LOT.

Ram can be anything, id recommend 1600 as after ddr3-1600 a lot dont notice a increase in speed.
