2nd monitor w/ green dots

Thread Starter
hello everyone.

i normally run crossfire w/ my 2 x850s, but sometimes i want to do editing or something and hook up my 2nd monitor and get out of xfire mode. well when i do this, the 2nd monitor attached to the x850xt shows these weird green dots all over the screen. i am using catalyst 6.9 w/ chuck fix currently.. but this also happend w/ omega and warcat drivers.

i have the xfire dongle connected still so i can switch back and forth easily, while the 2nd monitor is on the vga connector.

i dont think overheating is the problem as i am using the nzxt case (7 12cm fans) and both card fans can be run at 100% if turned up. the exhaust air isnt very hot either. the card is slightly overclocked atm @550,560 (nomally 520,540).

these dot things happend on different monitors as well

i dont know what to do about this,
thanks in advance

Either overheating or Pixel pipelines bugged (You're crapped if you have this).

Either way it should be RMA'ed.

Try upping the color to 32bit high color.

i have seen this on my mate's old laptop,..... only in purple and he dropped it...ahem threw,...wait let me rephrase that....... smashed it onto the ground because it was too slow (celeron 2.8 ghz) and i believe it is the videocard (ati) that broke down after a few months, showing the lines and blocks you have.... but if it is only one monitor, it could be the drivers, get them from sapphire,....my xfx is acting strange with original Nvidia drivers, but works fine with xfx's

This may sound a little risky,

But I have had this exact same green artifact problem with my old x850xtpe primary display. I had been overclocking it without the vmods(I got it stable at 690mhz with vmod btw lol), and it would not go away, but when I continued to overclock with atitool and scanned for artifacts it got worse, but when gpu recovery was activated from overclocking the core to much, the screen turned black, reset the clocks, and then came back to normal with no green artifacts.

Gpu recovery fixed this exact same problem for me. Try using atitool to slowly overclock the card until it artifacts fairly bad, if you can get gpu recovery to reset the card it should fix it.

It worked for me several times when overclocking the heck out of that card, which still works great

try to set you PEG link option(if you have it) in the bios to default, it auto overclocks/overvolts your graphics card

thanks for all the input so far guys..unfortunately none have worked that i tried

-32bit (which it was on) actually makes them stand out more than 16 so i might just use that

-i really doubt it is an overheating problem even though i cant see the xt's temp thru atitool, but the xfire only gets up to 62C at full load w/ 100% fan

-i dont know if the pixel pipelines are fux or not.. any way to check this?

-i adjusted the PEG link option to Normal from auto w/ no change. i can also adjust it to slow or fast.. i guess worth a shot to try them

-i did try to overclock it enough for VPU to kick in and reset it, but my system just freezes up and have to hit the reset button, so that didnt work either.

and always the last option to RMA it is not possible as i threw out the box like a numbskull only after having it like 2 weeks (derrr); also i had bought these 2 cards back in late august and ati says i had to register the cards w/in 30 days of purchase in order to send it for repair. and i didnt even put my system together until early this month..

so if this is unfixable thru my own means, it isnt really that bad cause with running crossfire mode, which i do the majority of the time, it runs fine and those green pixels arnt visible or anything else
