RAM OC Question

Thread Starter
410412

This is what I have, and I set the RAM Frequency to 800MHz in the BIOS. My CPU OC is 200x20 on an i7 920 @1.252v. Is my RAM settings optimal or can it increase the speed? I haven;t messed with RAM Timings yet.

Thanks in advance!

edit: this is on my Supremacy sig rig.

The memory is running at DDR-1200 right now. It may well be capable of more, but you will probably need to loosen timings.

You'll also need to increase the uncore multiplier if you want to use a higher memory multipler. Tri-channel on LGA-1366 requires the uncore clock be double the DDR speed you have set. You are running 2.4GHz now, but if you wanted to bump the memory to DDR-1600, you'd need to run 3.2GHz.

Thanks a lot. I'm on a school computer right now, and I'll try bumping up the Uncore clock when I get home. Do I have to set the clock to 3200MHz? Not sure what my BIOS settings are right now - I'll post pics/describe my settings when I get home. Thank you smile.gif

I set the NB Frequency to 3600MHz and I'm priming Blend mode. Six minutes passed, running.. Do I need to set it at 3200 only?

That's my RAM, I have three of them.
If I try to change timings, the PC won't boot (nothing on the screen but my rig fans spinning and all that)
Any idea of what I should do? Should I just leave it 1200?

Higher you set it the more performance you get, but using the minimum necessary speed means you will need less QPI/VTT voltage for stability and that the CPU will run cooler.

That's DDR3-1066, and while you can sometimes find 1066 that will do crazy OCs, most won't do DDR3-1600+.

What timings did you try?

Tri-channel on LGA-1366 requires the uncore clock be double the DDR speed you have set. You are running 2.4GHz now, but if you wanted to bump the memory to DDR-1600, you'd need to run 3.2GHzg.gif
