PSU and Mobo Questions

Hi guys! Didn't really knew where to put this, but its about hardware so... it came in here biggrin.gif

I'm building a new Pc and i'm currently looking for a good psu.

Specs so far:
3570K (OC) - With Evo Fan
R7850 (OC) - Possible CF in the future
Corsair Vengeance 2x4 GB
Samsung 830 SSD
1TB HDD WD
ASRock Extreme 4 or perhaps the MSI-G45? or the UD3H?
Case P182 (Using from old rig) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129025

So, i'll will be running with an OC CPU and in the future possible 2x7850 thats overclocked. My case currently got 3 120mm fans with space for another one.

Also im curious about which mobo to get. I've pretty much narrowed it down to these:
MSI Z77-G45 - PCI Express 3.0 x16/0 or x8/x8
ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 - PCI Express 3.0 x16/0 or x8/x8
GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H - PCI Express 3.0 x16/x8

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006654&IsNodeId=1&Description=G45&bop=And&CompareItemList=%2D1%7C13%2D157%2D293%5E13%2D157%2D293%2DTS%2C13%2D128%2D544%5E13%2D128%2D544%2DTS%2C13%2D130%2D647%5E13%2D130%2D647%2DTS

Listed in price order, cheapest first.
The MSI is 20$ cheaper than the ASRock.
The ASRock is 24$ cheaper than the GIGABYTE

Note that the prices are different where i live.

As for the PSU i've currently looked at the Antec HCG 620M: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371059

And the OCZ ZT 750: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tem=17-341-052
But some have problems with Ozc and others got some problems with cable length etc.

i would prefer a modular PSU since if i'm going xfire later i wont have those extra cables taken all the airflow. But if you can convince me to get a non modular then go a head tongue.gif

But ofc others will also do (:

Thanks

I'd get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182133

I've got it. Absolutely no problems! The 12v connectors are red but I've replaced most of them. Wires are a bit stiff but awesome power delivery. I've got a MAX oc'ed 580 with a 4.5Ghz 2500k and it handles it without any problems. 12v is around 12.20V idle and around 11.9V load.
Can't beat it, modular and a great price! thumb.gif

Oh Yeah, maybe i should have mentioned it.. But i live in Denmark and the whole Rosewill brand isn't available anywhere, kinda sad...

I would say just go with the G45, unless you're planning to try for an aggressive overclock (over 4.5ghz), which is hard to do on Ivy Bridge anyway.

Also, assuming your primary purpose is gaming, you might as well get an i5-3570k instead of an i7. The threads are really only used for workstation purposes, or for producing a stream. & the money could also be shifted right into getting, say, a 7870 instead of a 7850. But if you know what you need the extra threads for, no problems.

As for PSU advice, the Antec would be fine. There might be a better choice, but I can't really help more unless you let us know where you're buying your parts. Hardwareversand.de? a danish site? Generally you should be able to at least link a price list or something.

But you look pretty set.

Oh, lol i made a typo in the post, it is the 3570K tongue.gif

As for buying sites, i'm looking mostly at http://www.komplett.dk/k/k.aspx and http://www.computersalg.dk/. But http://www.edbpriser.dk/ gives a great overview of items, altho they are all in danish.
But the only big differences between newegg and the resellers here are the price and sometimes they don't got the brand like the Rosewill. Although most brands are available here.

Corsair makes good power supplies. I have a 650 watt one from that line and it works perfectly.

Okay so the biggest question I'm concerned about is whether to go for a 650W or a 750W.

I'm thinking about the Corsair Enthusiast TX 650/750M - But it's a bit more expensive that the HCG and got terrible reviews on newegg

I am running a GTX 480 off my TX 650 V2, so I doubt that you would need more than a 650 watt for a single card. You should know that the the power supply has only two PCIe connectors, which will be a problem if you try to do crossfire.

Here's a chart of the 7850's power consumption:

Well for these sorts of questions I tend to turn to Phaedrus' handy dandy PSUCalc program found in the stickies of this website's power supply forum. An ivy bridge CPU & a single gpu aren't going to ever need more than 450w of power (from a quality, not crap, supply). But I assume you're budgeting for potential Crossfire/SLI. It brings up a total recommended 640w for an ivy bridge i5 & 2 7850s... and that's with the i5 heavily overclocked & the 7850s both overclocked and significantly overvolted... plus some extra safety room. That's higher than 620... but the Antec is a quality unit and is actually on the recommended list for the configuration you described in Phaedrus' PSUCalc... so the Antec is fine.

The PSU I'd probably go with as being a touch better than the lower-priced corsairs AND cheaper than them is the XFX core 650w at 602 kroner - not a bad price at all figuring taxes in:
http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?act=url&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=da&tl=en&u=http://www.computersalg.dk/produkt/990377/xfx-core-edition-pro650w-str%25C3%25B8mforsynin&usg=ALkJrhgD8cchK2-aeArJxtBWymYWhAN0qw

But the above XFX is not modular. The XFX xxx 650w is modular -but it's 90ish kroner more and not currently in stock. (or 150 kroner more at komplett). The Antec high current gamer 620 looks to be the cheapest acceptable modular PSU at 650 kroner, and it is in stock:
http://www.computersalg.dk/produkt/602117/antec-high-current-gamer-hcg620m-str%25C3%25B8&usg=ALkJrhiT3BnpdETnTCtx14Oxyo4qer4SWw

If you want flashy LED-ness, you could also spring for the Super Flower Atlas 680w, a modular PSU of good quality that I believe has an led fan and glowing modular plugs (755 kroner):
http://www.computersalg.dk/produkt/829335/super-flower-atlas-design-strømforsyni

Edit: looking at above, you already see my recommendations on PSU. On graphics cards, I'd stick with the sapphire - they're supposed to have some of the quietest coolers for the 7000 series despite their low price. Nice combination.
