I suppose if it's locked I'd have to grab a new cpu. They don't look to be too expensive though.
Again sorry for the newbie questions; I can find a Core2Quad Q8200 for around 40 bucks in Sweden (where I live) and GTX470 cards a plenty so I think I'd be better off just buying locally. Is the Q8200 viable (better, worse for overclocking?) and are there any GTX470s in particular that I should be vying for?

The Q6600 will oc better the Q8200 runs a lot cooler, honestly the q8200 hits 3.0ghz easily IIRC, looking at reviews that seems to be correct, if its that much cheaper get it, and the the 470 locally would be good. Any 470, I would get EVGA first and foremost but any will work. Be sure to get 2 more GB ram as well.

ALSO: Get the Hyper 212+ to overclock with. no stock cooling ocing plz. biggrin.gif

EDIT: the G0 q6600 can OC to about 3.6 easily so there is that. :/

Could you please post your motherboard model, Q8200 uses a faster bus and needs a supported motherboard.

Okay I think I have pretty clear picture of what to do then. smile.gif

Just one last question I suppose, assuming that the q8200 runs much cooler and can be OCed to 3.0 would the extra fan still be needed? tongue.gif

It's only 30 bucks extra I suppose and it could carry over to my next build, but a hassle is a hassle.
Especially when shipping to Sweden. smile.gif

First this below, I am so forgetful with socket 775 stuff, it was too long ago.

If it is compatible no its not needed but recommended. A lot of people did 3.1 at 55c with stock. If it isn't buy the G0 from the marketplace its amazing.

Actually if you can find a MSI twinfrozer card that would be even better. My GTX465 came with a twinfrozer II cooler and it worked great, quiet and stayed cool. Has no problem pushing the voltage to the max. Can't really say the same thing with stock coolers.

Also Don't settle for stock cooling, for any overclocking it would be best to buy a nice cpu cooler. Plus it can be reused at a later date. It would be best to toss that intel stock cooler in the river or use it as a paper weight as thats the only thing they are good for.

Evga should have a warranty still though which would be transferable.

It will support the E8200 but by overclocking only :/
Intel Core™ 2 Duo E8200 2.66GHz 6MB Wolfdale 45nm C0 65W 1333 F10m(by Overclocking)

You also have to use F10m bios.

Your stuck to using a Q6600, your board doesn't support 1333mhz bus. Also I would pick up some VRM heatsinks and attach them to your board, if you plan on overclocking the chip to its max.

Actually according to the site Supported processor list

Intel Core™ 2 Duo E8200 2.66GHz 6MB Wolfdale 45nm C0 65W 1333 F10m(by Overclocking)

I am with him though the Q6600 would be simplest and the most likely to work without issue.
