Need some help regarding my next upgrade - Page 3

Yes the H80 will work on all motherboards out there. You may want to go with an Antec 620 or Antec 920 instead for right now, because currently the corsair H100 and H80 have some pump noise issues. It sounds like a hard drive (clicks a lot). My H100 does it and I will be RMAing it once they fix the product line.

3770 or 3770k?

If I get it from Malaysia, then obviously 3770K. If I have to buy it from my country, 3770 cause the K version is not available here.

Is the H80 that bad? Will I be able to hear it over the 3 7970 Lightnings?

What are the differences between the 620 and 920? Which is more efficient - H80, 620 or 920? Will I be able to achieve ~4.5 to ~5.0 GHz with 620/920?

Thanks a lot! smile.gif

Also, what SSD would you suggest for gaming? I want at least a 256GB one. At first I thought of getting an Intel 520(or is it 530?) 240GB or a Samsung 830 256GB.

Thanks a lot! smile.gif

Here is a thread about the corsair pump issues:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1236923/corsair-h100-h80-h60-noise-grinding-pump-fix-official-corsair-response

Under load the 3 7970s will be louder, but at idle you will hear the pump (assuming you get unlucky and get a noisy one).
The H80 is almost exactly the same performance as the antec 920. The 620 is not as good, so don't bother with that one.

The overclock all depends on how lucky you are with your chip. Some chips struggle to hit 4.5, others can hit 4.8. 4.8 is probably the highest you will get on water with a 3770k because they are very hot chips when overclocked. Keep in mind that at 4.8, the 3770k will perform like a 2700k at 5.1.

EDIT: The intel and samsung ssds you mentioned are both good. The crucial M4 is very popular as well. Any modern ssd will give you great performance.

Will the PLX chip in the motherboard completely remove the bottleneck for 3-way CF in an LGA1155 system?

I think I'll go for the Samsung SSD. I read something about SSDs requiring a 2.5" to 3.5" bay. If my SSD doesnt come with one, can I still use it i.e., attach it to my casing with screws?

Which RAM kit would you suggest? LGA1155s dont support more than 1600 MHz RAM, so will the computer be benefited by memory of higher frequency? I was thinking about getting some with 1600MHz speed and a Cas Latency of 7, although this combo is hard to find. How much RAM would be enough - 16GB or 32GB?

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the help! smile.gif

edit : what is a push/pull configuration? Do I need to buy something extra to avail it? Does it provide any substantial performance gains?

PLX chip: Yes you should be fine.

All SSDs are 2.5" drives. A lot of cases nowadays have holes for 2.5" drives on their HDD trays. If your case doesn't have the holes, buy the Samsung 830 desktop kit. I believe it comes with a converter. Also, you can honestly just set your ssd in your case with no screws because there are no moving parts that could get damaged. I wouldn't recommend this for long term, but you'll be fine if it's only for a week while you're waiting for a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter or something.

Ivy bridge has gotten DDR3 RAM up to about 3200mhz in the hands of some extreme overclockers. For just gaming, 8GB of 1600mhz @ 8-8-8 or 9-9-9 timings will be plenty, although check out these samsung sticks if you feel comfortable overclocking ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096
They can be overclocked like crazy.

Push/pull means you have liquid cooling, with fans pushing air into one side of the radiator, as well as fans pulling air out the other side. So:

air -> fan -> radiator -> fan -> air

Maybe a few degrees cooler at the most.

Just found this article about multi-GPU gaming benchmarks. (http://nl.hardware.info/reviews/2641/8/nvidia-geforce-gtx-680-quad-sli-review-english-version-crysis-2)

It shows that 2 7970s are performing better than 3 or 4. What is this all about?

Also, I found another thread in this forum (http://www.overclock.net/t/1196362/4-6-ghz-3570k-bottleneck-tri-fire-7970s-at-5760-x-1080) while trying to find out if a 3770K is going to be bottleneck for 3 7970s. Multiple users have mentioned here that going for CF does not future-proof my system. Rather saving money and later going for better and newer parts as they come along would be a better idea. What's your opinion on this?

Do the driver issues with CF actually get fixed by the developers? Or do I have to suffer from it as long as I use CF, or more specifically - trifire?

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the help! smile.gif
