EDIT: I'm assuming they're switches, anyway. I know the difference between a router and a switch, I swear! I'm not a noob! D:

35 dollars each for the switch. and the router was given to me by my ccna teacher

So after having this little device on my network I have noticed that everything runs much smoother. Web pages are more snappy and even when i use VNC tunneled via SSH from work is a lot more repsonsive as well. it was certainly a worth while upgrade to the network.

of course have a 600mhz network cpu and 64 megs of ram has a huge play in the new network performance im seeing. these are great routers with greate prices attached to them. i would strongly reccomend looking into Mikrotik

Mikrotik routers are nice. I have used them extensively in my last job and really like them. One of the best tools they have is the winbox program that lets you connect to the units via the mac address.

The only thing I didn't like was the wireless routers they have. We tried to use them in a WDS environment with a hotspot system and the radios would mess up the client's mac addresses between the hops and give access to the entire network instead of each person's individual mac address.

Not to sure about the wifi issues. in that regaurd ive read nothing but great things when it comes to them and wifi. as for the winbox yes it is a really nice utilitiy. It also supports mac-telnet as well. basically the same thing but for the cli use. I like the fact that you dont have to have layer 3 in order to get into your system and configure it.

These routers are awesome!

Did you notice the max broadcasting power is 1W (not that I would recommend blacking out your apartment building with your router in the U.S. as that is illegal)?

The dual chain is very nice as well. I've been looking into getting one of these beasts for a while now, but can't really justify the overkill for my 900sqft apartment.
