New to Intel. considering I7 3930k.

So I can get a wicked deal on this processor...but having never owned an Intel processor beyond the P3, I have no idea what to expect. I know it's not the newest one, and I'm not sure how Intel does their sockets. Complete newbies when it comes to Intel CPUs, Mobos, and RAM. Please help.

Ya, it's hard to justify the price difference though. A $600 processor for $170 is too good to pass up I think. Though I need to grab a $200 mobo...And I know nothing of the intel chipsets.

That's true, but I know nothing about the comparison of the X79 against the AMD version.

AMD doesn't have anything for the desktop market that could match a 3930K.

Basically you're getting the best consumer grade desktop processor in the world with 3mb less cache and 100mhz clocks which basically means that you're getting the best consumer grade desktop proc tongue.gif

Go for it and enjoy, SB-E should be intel's top lineup for about a year still

That's true. I guess I don't follow Intel that much, I figured since I'm paying $170 that it was mid-grade at best. Does ASRock and MSI make better boards for Intel than they do for AMD? I have never heard a good review on them for the AMD side.
