Disable/remove the scaler on Dell 3008WFP

Thread Starter
Greetings! smile.gif

As much as I love my monitor, it just is not that fast in FPS games that I would like.

I have searched around the internet, and I can not find any option to disable the scaler inside my 3008WFP, as from what I have heard the scaler is really the cause of the massive 35ms input lag on this monitor.

So is there ANY way that I can either disable, or remove the scaler from my monitor? I am not afraid to open my monitor and remove it if someone could tell me how.
I also wonder if I can actually remove the scaler without destroying my monitor?

I do not need the scaler, as I really just play at 2560x1600 and do not have any other devices other than my pc connected to it.

Any help is much welcomed!
Thanks

If you are playing at native resolution, there should be no need for a scaler. I wonder if it runs the video through it all the time, but at native res it doesnt do anything. That still shouldent cause too much lag, though.

I am not sure really, but I think it runs through the scaler no matter what. Since TFT central reviewed it at native resolution and it was 35ms input lag then, and I know the panel is actually rated down to 5ms even though Dell markets it at 8ms.
I am very picky about lag, frames, input lag and such, and I really notice it. I know that my monitor is actually the only thing holding me back in FPS games now.

The scaler in the 3008WFP apparently is completely terrible when it comes to input lag, this has been confirmed by many others that the monitor just "lags behind".

It sounds logical that it does not do anything at native resolution, but it does!

I'd take a guess that the scaler is built into the control board somehow, if your good with a soldering iron and really know your electronics maybe you could find a way to bypass it, or 'borrow' a control board from a 3007wfp-hc and hook it up to a 3008wfp, i'm not 100% sure if that'll work though

I really wouldn't recommend that. The scaler was put in for a reason and messing with it not only voids the warranty but also you run the risk of bricking your screen. One thing the scaler might also do is convert the Video signals to the raw format used by the panel itself.

Are you sure its the input lag? I have 30ms with my U2711 and i dont notice it at all. When playing @ 2560x1600 the GPU is probably the biggest problem. Low fps will make it seem like input lag. You have to get more then just 50fps to eliminate the feel. On top of all that all the parts on the PC add some input lag.

Well I have shaky hands, so sadly not to good with soldering irons frown.gif Can't say I am the best at doing stuff like this at all!

Perhaps you are right. The warranty is already gone out, so no biggie there really! But I would really like to not brick my monitor, I do not have cash for a new one, since I am without a job now!

Yes I am sure. I have really good eyes, and I have 60fps+ in all the games I play. I play at lower settings to always get 60fps. 50fps feels like lag to me, I am really good to notice lags that no one else notices.
I realize my other components add input lag too, but my monitor is the worst of them no doubt. And usually input lag from the computer itself is so little, its no real biggie.

I have testet my computer with fast screens, and I am certain its my monitor that the biggest issue. I know my monitor is on of the absolutely worst in higher end monitors when it comes to input lag (from the scaler from what I read around the internet).
As I said the panel is actually rated for 5ms which is ok enough.

Your U2711 is a bit faster, even though not the fastest around the block. Before this monitor I had a 120hz monitor, so it's quite hard for me to play FPS games on this for me at times hehe smile.gif

Turn off V-Sync... I don't play with V-Sync because sometimes I can feel the input lag...

My Monitor is 60Hz and with V-Sync on it caps frames per second at 60, so with input lag cause 1 or 2 or a few frame drops you notice the lag... with V-Sync off my GPU can run over 100 frames per second... I may get screen tearing, but a few frame drops at 100 FPS is nothing...

I have a Nvidia GTX 670 if you are wondering...
