You can't have that kind of blip in exposure without there being some carryover. Let's put it this way, once this is in place, there will be a lot more Linux users than there were today.

yes, there will be alot more Professionals too with Linux experience as well as everyday users.

But where does the money go?

As far as I can tell, the bit about modifying the GPL was careless editorializing. It sounds like all modified code will probably be exclusively for private use, so the source will not need to be made public.

It wont but its harder to do so because linux has far bstter security and because hackers have less experience with it.

Well, isn't linux sort of like Apple's OS back when it wasn't popular? Very different user base to be sure but security through obscurity.

Once the military uses it, they might make doubly sure it never gets popular for consumer use.

Not exactly. The Mac OS was only part of that equation. You have to remember that they also ran on a different architecture than all other consumer PCs.

I guess this makes it easier to understand, source.

In a nutshell, Linux was made with different layers of security, and as far as I know there's no way to make terminal damage to a linux installation (a friend of mine tried deleting all possible files of a linux distro, but he still could get to the shell and use several basic commands from the kernel and some basic functions, similar to what ArchLinux is before configuring) without physical access to it or using some very advanced tricks.

Most Military Intelligence Hackers are "very advanced" if you had the chance to talk to some of the Hackers the Chinese use for their cyber warfare division most linux users would be mute on how "secure" the OS is. Its not secure. No Operating System is. The Chinese, The Russians, and The Israelis employ some of the most advanced hackers in the world in their cyber warfare units. The U.S. is so far behind those countries its ridiculous. They pay REALLY REALLY well. If you linux fans think you have what it takes I urge you to contact them. They do recruit non citizens.

No one is saying that it is perfectly secure, just that it is RELATIVELY more secure than OSX and windows, which isn't saying much considering neither of those OSs were really made with security in mind.
