PowerColor Extreme 1000W

Hi, i have bought yesterday this power supply unit
http://www.powercolor.com/Global/products_power_layer_2.asp?SeriesID=67&subSeriesID=69&TSeriesID=63
putted in the case, connected everything and turn on the system - everything works great, but : the fan does not moves. I have read in a review, that under 250w consumation the fan stops and thought that this is my case. So started to play different games, but the fan does not turns on, the PSU gets even little hot, but the fan does not turns on. My CPU is Q9550 and is clocked to 4000Mhz, 8GB ram working at 2.4V, GTX470 working at 800Mhz with 1.037V .... I am confused because i am calculating that my power load is around 500W - the PSU fan should turn on to cool the power unit, but it doesn't ! Am I doing something wrong, or maybe there is something that i do not know, or maybe the PSU needs to be repeared ?

Could you take a picture of the fan?

Also it may be out of your experience but if you could take off only the top cover of the power supply and take a picture that would help. Please note that this may VIOD any warranties.

I can not open the PSU, because i will lose the warranty. Of course I can return to the seller and send the PSU for repairs, but I want to be sure that something is wrong with it. I have planned for tonight to test the supply with a run on Furmark with highest CPU and VGA clocks.

Well if the powersupply works and it doesnt get to hot then keep it.

But if you can get a new one then you should

I have just run a 10 minute test with Furmark with everything overclocked to the max possible (stable) and the fan did not start to work. The PSU case was warm, even little hot, but nothing serious. Tomorrow i will call to the distributor for my country (not the seller) and will ask for their opinion.

I have a power supply tester (Thermaltake Dr. Power 2) and check the PSU with it - all voltages are good, but the fan was not operational. I am not sure, but i think that the tester do not loads the supply, it just checks the values at that moment.

Fan might not spin up till 50% load actually, It was just noticed in the kitguru review it wasn't spinning at 250w load but it may also go till 500w load before turning on (or not untill a certain temperature is reached) since it's a Auto thermostatic Smart fan, but I can't find any more info on that.

I am thinking about this option, my motherboard supports two VGA in SLI, so i have to find someone to borrow me another 470 for testing, or to find someone who is agree to put my PSU in his computer.

Hotbox it. Pull out the hair dryer and blow some hot air into it. Temps should kick temp sensor on.

It is a perfect idea! I"ll definetly try it smile.gif Today I called the distributor and explained him about my situation and he said that it is normal, because i am not loading enough the PSU and the temperature around the PSU is not high enough for the fan controller to turn on the fan. Now i am thinkink how to use the hair dryer without taking out the PSU from the comp. case (i am afraid about the temperature around the CPU and MB if i just start to blow with hot air inside the case).
