Invest in a cooler. I have an avarage...horrible-airflow case. In the winter in my basement, i could get a 600mhz overclock out of my 965 without temps going over 45 on load. with stock cooler. Now, Im in my room and its summer, and I dont turn the AC on much (costly) i usually have a single fan at my face xD. On stock clocks and BELOW, stock being 3.4ghz and below as far as 2.8ghz undervolted to try to solve my heat issues. I was running at 42*c idle, and if I played crysis or something, it would jump to about 67* in a few minutes.
I bought a Hyper 212+ for 30 bucks on newegg. I looked everywhere, and everyone gave so much praise to the 212 lineup, so i gave the mid-priced one a try. You can get the 212 for about 25 or the 212 Evo for about 40, but there isnt a significant difference to justify the price influx.
Now, in 32* Ambient Temps, I am idle at about 33-34* c and on REALISTIC load, doing what I usually do, bfbc2, crysis, video encoding, It never jumps above 45*. On Prime95 Blend, it gets at about 50*, which is still safely below the 60* temp you need to look out for.
