Worried about overclocking! Want to hit 4ghz!

Hi guys, long time since i posted here but i got some new parts coming and needed some advice.

I already have a MSI 890GXM-G65 motherboard, and a BeQuiet 600W 80+ Gold Rated PSU (92% effeciency).

I have on the way a '95w' 960t which will hopefully unlock to 6 cores (just as a bonus) and an Antec 620 cooler which should keep my processor nice and cool. I also have a lapping kit in the post too so i intend to lap my 960t when it arrives.

Problem is i have just been browsing the forums and sufficed to say my board seems a little lacking. I assumed this board was high quality for MATX when i bought it - apparently not.

It has 4+1 power phase with minimal cooling, although it does have some, but has been known to blow up when pushed. Some review sites claim they have been able to push the board to 1.55v, but people on this forum have reported it setting fire and blowing up when using as little as 1.45 volts.

I'm a little confused really, i had hoped to push my new processor to about 4ghz (4 or 6 cores, preferably 6) but i'm concerened that it will blow.

Should i overclock my new processor with this board? And would something like updating bios help in any way?

TIA.

No to all.
Don't OC, update won't help. Some sites may have "reached" it, but they don't use the rig after the article is done. Even if you manage to get to 4 without it blowing, you won't hold there for long.

look for a board here:
http://www.geeks.com/products_sc.asp?cat=1220
or in the OCN Marketplace..A lot of people are selling off good AMD stuff.
an m5a99 or ta990fxe would be better than that MSI board...
MSI is just bad..I happened to get to talking to this guy..who happened to buy the same junky MSI board as I did..(k9blahblah)
We both ended up throwing them in the trash.

Well thats bad news. Better to know before trying though. Guess i need to get a new board.

But i do have to remian on Matx form factor and would like to overclock. Sata3 is a must also.

Anyone know if i would i be able to overclock on something like these?

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=475
http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/890GM%20Pro3/

Any other Sata3 m-atx options out there, i know choices are limited?

Also, in regards to my 890GXM-G65 - would my current board be able to handle 6 cores at stock volts? Could i overclock on stock volts?

Yes, just make sure you record it and post it on Youtube after the fireworks begin! drum.gif
