And you could use an old phone charger to power the fan!
But I have a speed controller on mine biggrin.gif
And it runs silent at 3V

I'm on this over the weekend...

As for smoking...it's really hard to stop, tried the e-cigs...didn't even come close to the real thing...I used to finish at least 3 to 4 packs back home...but here in Canada...cigs are expensive...so I'm down to 1 pack in 3 days...not bad if you ask me.

As for cleaning...my 880GA-UD2H was dipped in warm soapy water + pine-sol for 15 minutes, ran warm water to clean off the soap and pine-sol and blasted it with my MetroVac duster and let it drip dry for 12 hours and another 8 hours for good measure and blasted again with air...looks brand-new and didn't have the smell of smoke...

And if you're a smoker, you should be blasting your components with air every week...that's how I keep my clean w/o any tar build-up.

Same boat, used to smoke a pack in 2-3 days, and stopped blowing near the intake on my antec 300, and people are right, it did build a small residue before that. And regular cleaning is necessary to keep your habit near your PC. I recommend just getting up and smoking outside, that helped reduce my smoking too ( for those interested in quitting or slowing down) and overall smell to "others" that don't smoke, cause honestly when you smoke, your sense of smell tends to ignore it. Now, me 8 months clean, I can smell if a room has had cigarrette smoke in it.

I don't think it will hurt anything, as I have seen plenty of disgusting computers filled with tar and dust that couldn't be scraped off that were still working.

Still, it will make your computer disgusting and unsaleable. Also, all the computers I have seen like this have dust stick to the fan and other components that won't come off.

I literally won't work on a smoker's computer, unless the tar or smoke smell is very light.

Just because someone smokes doesn't mean their computer is going to look like crap. (I'm not saying smoking is good for you or anything and anyone who is should quit ASAP)

My mom smokes but does it in another room, away from my computers, with windows open. And my next door neighbor smokes outside. But doing it right next to your computer, in the same room will cake your parts with tar build up and leave a nasty film over time.

Hi,

Cigarette smoke is very bad for computers, just google for pc smoker photo smile.gif

But that is not a problem, forget about the computer: Smoke is very bad for YOU !
Think of your health before thinking of the computer ... and stop smoking.

Regards.

I know its very hard to quit supposedly harder than cocaine/heroin, but if you truly want to quit you can I did after a year of smoking. Just gradually reduce how much you are smoking to avoid most of the nasty withdrawl effects.

Overall no, it's not good for your components, but it's not going to be an immediate thing so much as over time.
If you're going to smoke around your PC you should just be more thorough (and regular) with cleaning everything etc.

Well i'm a PC smoker too, but i keep it clean, dusting of the fans and clean them with isopropanol if necessary, heatsinks and so on get a good bath with warm water and maybe dishwasher soap. And as far as the smell goes i have an AC with active ionization filter for the warm days or simply leave the windows open tongue.gif oh and my pc sits under the table so no direct contact with the smoke.
