What is your favorite programming language(s)?

post #1 of 86
Thread Starter
After reading the "Which programming language do you dislike most?" thread, I began to wonder which programming languages you guys like the most, and why?

Some of you might not agree with me, but my personal favorite is Java. It's so much more simple than c++, and I love how huge the standard library is.

It depends on what I'm doing. At the moment, based on my knowledge:

* VB.NET for application programming due to the simplicity and speed of creating functional desktop UIs
* PHP for website programming
* Scheme for doing anything involving huge numbers or lots of theoretical computer science stuff

Perl. Sure it's ugly and not the quickest thing in the world either, but coding in it is so much fun. The syntax is so flexible that programming becomes more of an art form than a science.

However, for serious work, C++.

Java. so easy to use. if you want fast forget c++ and go 16 bit assembly. if you're good enough go 64 bit assembly

ASM is for dumbasses that can't code in raw binary.

Python, everything is clear, everything has just one CORRECT way of doing it, and duck typing is just absurdly productive.

Python, good syntax, reasonably fast, quick to get things done with, good library and modules available for almost anything.
