i7 3820 Overheating @stock speed forget overclocking. - Page 2

I'd guess it to be an error with the cooler...

either it is not pumping or the base/mounting system is faulty.

my 3930k at stock absolutely maxes at 60c with a scythe ninja 3 while doing video encoding

And while it is possible that there could be an issue with the mobo or the cpu itself causing the issue, it would be extremely unlikely

Well I just looked up the 620 cooler again it doesn't specifically say 2011 but everything fits... it might not be as you said pressured enough on the CPU itself.

Guess I need to check for an updated version of it I think the 920 is 2011 my buddy has that, but he had a leak issue with it... so not so sure which to get... or if I should just bite the bullet and blow the $500 I need to spend to get the liquid setup I want.
Is the pump running at full12v speed.
Are you using the stock fan for the 620? Intake or exhaust? 1 or 2 fans?
How is the airflow with case?

Something is probably wrong with the cooler, I had a 620 for all of 15 minutes and the pump failed. If you have the pump power plugged into the CPU fan header, you should be able to see ~4200 RPM in the BIOS or some kind of monitoring utility. If it is not, then either A) your board is telling it to run slower based on some fan quietness setting (asus boards are guilty of this a lot) or B) your pump is bad. Just something to check.

Not sure how you got that out of what I said? A 12yr old kid has no patience for one and would almost always look over the obvious not knowingly. Like I said "no Offense" probably not 100% sure that it's being mounted correctly.

Anyways, OP, if your cooler doesn't specify LGA2011 mounting then it's 99.9% not making correct contact. I built over 200+ systems since the i7 920 C0's came out and never had any of them running above 80c overclocked up to 5.2ghz (SB) 4.4ghz (920 D0's) or any other i5 or i7. Get a cooler that fits LGA2011 and you will be good thumb.gif

These guys brought up good points, theres a very good chance that the bracket pressure is wrong. If you're switching coolers I suggest a H80. It comes stock with the proper 2011 standoffs

FYI, at work my 3930k running 4.5ghz @ 1.275v hits only 60c max load in Prime95 1792/1344 30min and 80c max @ 4.8ghz 1.375v on the H80. I encode/render a lot as I use Autodesk Inventor 2012 and Handbreak all the time. Never had a issue since the chip was bought.

Sup TSM? Haven't talked in a bit. Boat, Golf, new Strippers biggrin.gif , been busy since the weather got nice lol.

I completely agree with the others, if your cooler doesn't specify lga2011, and the brackets that are specifically made, the. I would say thats your problem. H80 or a h100 will do perfectly for a 3820. I've never had an issue affer 3+ hours of bf3, radiator is cool to the touch. Sorry i don't have a specific temp number.
