I'm running a 3930k and a 6950 and I render 1080p videos in near real time when rendering to sony avc/hd

Dekaewt should be OK since he is using Vegas 10, but Sony definitely turned up the acceleration in 11. GPU acceleration in 10 is limited to rendering certain formats; but 11 extended it to include decoding, transitions, effects, motion, playback, and a few other odds & ends. Still, it makes a world of difference just having support in the suite to offload rendering to the GPU.

BTW, nice system. We'll probably end up replacing our main edit suite with a X79 system at some point this year...or a C602 system if it's a really good year. The Skulltrail system were currently using is still hanging in there pretty well, but it's pretty much reached its limits in terms of scaleability.

Thanks dude... Probably gonna wind up with 2 680s that will definitely help offload even more of the payload. I don't do the extensive renders that alot of people do. I do videos for youtube, but some days, like today, i rendered out over 2 hours of footage in 720p with .avi . It only took me about 8 minutes per 15mins of video :-D

Do some research on using two GPUs before you throw down the cash on the second card. Multiple cards, as well as dual GPU cards, are usually a waste when it comes to video editing. I'm not real familiar with Vegas, but the suites I am familiar with (Premier & Avid) will only recognize a single GPU for acceleration, so you're best option is usually to get the beefiest card with the largest amount of onboard RAM you can afford.

Edit: Read the third post down...this seems to confirm my suspicions about Vegas

It's not only for that, I game too and run 3 monitors so it'll me more for umpth there than for the rendering. Plus its all about the epeen!

Roger that. Epeen is always a worthwhile investment biggrin.gif

OTOH, it would've sucked to spend the cash expecting huge returns in your editing sessions only to find out one of your GPUs is sitting idle.
