Using Overclock.net for Personal Gains

In the last ~3 years, we have seen and been through a lot We grew this site from 1 person to more than 28,000 - through the use of paid advertising and other above-board tactics. It has not come cheap. We spend thousands every few months to make sure people know about us!

Because of this, we end up with many people here trying to leverage our immense traffic base for their own benefit. The old days of just blasting spam into the forums are over (thanks to CAPTCHA and especially our amazing Directors). New tactics are far more subtle and personal.

Since day 1 we have always taken a hard stance on spamming our community in order to provide you one of the most authentic and unbiased meeting places in this space. Our policies are clearly outlined in the forum Rules and TOS.

The purpose of this post is to reiterate our commitment to this policy - one of the things that has made this community what it is.

If you are an advertiser that wants to inundate our space with "grey" messages, this is not the place for you. If you are a member wanting to jumpstart your own overclocking community by leveraging your relationships established here, this is not the place for you. If you are a member that directly supports these types of tactics, Overclock.net is not the place for you.

If you are an overclocker looking to discuss the pursuit of performance and respect the community for what it is/always has been, we are most definitely the place for you

Just a reminder.

We have spent tens of thousands of dollars and MANY hours bringing people here and making their experience enjoyable.

If you are working against us or the community in any way, or you do not respect the value Overclock.net plays in the process, we ask that you move on from here asap.

Thank you very much to those who stand up everyday for the community and our members. People attempt to take advantage of our size on a daily basis - and we have many members who protect this site like they would their own family. For this, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Bump

Overclock.net is NOT a place for any type of commercial/advertising/promotional presence - from new or long-time "members" - other than in our well defined and transparent "Official Vendor" program.

We have worked very hard to bring overclockers, who are interested in the pursuit of performance, to the community and make them happy during their stay. If you own a site/product/company etc., we ask that you use above-the-board tactics to promote yourself through legitimate and respectful ways.

Signing up as a member and subtly (or not so subtly) promoting yourself or your wares through a forum post/PM/Chat/IM etc. is not what we need here and will be met with little respect and swift action. This type of activity is fundamentally opposed to the spirit and the origins of this site.

If you witness any of this type of activity, please report it to a Director who is online at the time. Thanks for helping keep this community spam and leech free.

Just to clear a few things up:

You ARE ALLOWED to be a member of other overclocking forums. The rumor that is being spread by some that you will be banned from overclock.net for joining other overclocking forums is untrue. You are not allowed to use overclock.net for personal gains as admin has explained. All you need to do is follow our TOS and you will be 100% fine.

We appreciate every member who comes to this forum and I hope that you're all willing to ignore the lies that some people enjoy spreading.
