Thread Starter
after more research, I'm going to get a 3570k and overclock it to the max, I think it will be a nice toy to play with.
Now, what board do you guys suggest to me?
I have this boards on my list
MSI Z77A-GD65
Gigabyte Z77x-UD3H
ASRock Z77 Extreme 6

Well glad to have you back (making an assumption here: sorry about the girl) and you'll get used to the new platform. I did, took me awhile, but I just stuck with the BB editor and avoid the RTF editor like the plague.

edit: go with the 3570k/2500k or the 3930k (if you really need the extra threads)

HT adds a 100-110 premium, that, IMHO, is not worth it for the performance "increases"

Oh, my system's been fine. This was more of a surprise spiritual thing (I really didn't see it coming - I thought I was quitting just because I don't like this platform). I think this spiritual thing is still happening because I'm starting to see things differently now that I'm here again. It's a long story. smile.gif

I agree with you about the Rich Text Editor. I think the whole thing with this editor is probably my biggest complaint, especially with not being able to switch between editors on the fly without losing my post. I have other complaints, but I'm keeping them to myself for now.

I mean the 2700k , the 2600k and 2700k is priced same in my country.

Based on the above then get a 3570 or 3770 as you get PCIe 3.0 too.biggrin.gif

Glad your system is fine, and that sounds really awesome! I'd ask more but ToS and stuff. It's funny what we can reflect on/in, sometimes it's just the smallest stuff smile.gif.

There's a link in my sig that covers most of the basics of the new platform. Check it out. It's grown on me over time, I still miss the old one at times and do the odd double post. I'd switch over to the RTF if my spell checked worked correctly (always one and only one option on right click: paste) I'd learn to transition to it. Whoops, it's worth dealing to have fun with the community though smile.gif.

OP,

If you haven't used HT in 3-4 years, you wont need to in 3-4 years. If your really going to keep your computer that long, you need more physical cores (3930K) than virtual, and you get 4 more threads total. 4c/4t SB/IB will also be perfect for longevitiy, they both overclock well, and IB will have about a 300mhz gain on IB. IB gets very hot with "normal" voltages that SB could take, though, so that's something to be wary of, from what I've seen, the temp doesn't start going crazy till 4.5-4,7+.

I wanted to get a 3930K, intel was having and amazing sale for $200, but I'll have to wait till the winter sale instead, and they'll prolly offer IB, when I wanted SB-E and the gene-z. redface.gif.

Yeah, if my system died on me or something, then that would be devastating for me in the same way it would be for someone to lose their entire house. redface.gif

Still, I'm lucky enough to have my parent's laptop at my disposal should an emergency come up.

Anyway, I may check out what's in your signature, but I participated in the beta test of this platform for 2 months (the last 2 months). Plus, that also helped me know that if it sucked live just as much as it did in beta, then I was going to quit. Thus, I quit. lol smile.gif Fortunately, it turned out to be entirely "meant to be".

(regarding that rich text editor, I agree with you again lol I need my browser's context menu to be available at all times!)

It's more about fun and a challenge versus any real benefit to performance.

New toys to play with.

If you don't enjoy tinkering, stick with what you have?

I am seeing only 17% improvement stock vs stock.

Overclocked is a whole other beast, my 3570k blows my 2500k out of the water.

Many people comparing cpu to cpu, that imho is not good compassion, compare the platforms as a whole.

Ivy vs Sandy?

iGPU - better on Ivy for around 50%

USB 3.0 better on Ivy - Intel native controller vs third party NEC/ESMEDIA etc.

PCIE-3.0 better on Ivy Sandy does not support PCI-E 3.0

Quiksync better on Ivy around 40% faster then Sandy.

Thunderbolt support on Ivy, Sandy does not support it.

Memory OC alot better on Ivy 3GHZ = better IMC, Sandy can go 2400 max.

4K video playback on Ivy, Sandy does not support it.

Around 10% improvements generally over Sandy Bridge clock for clock..

less power consumption on Ivy.

So all in all, Ivy is alot better buy.

And for mobo, i recommend UD5H if money is not issue, or maybe maximus v gene which is the best ~190$ mobo for Z77 period.
