Hi,
I purchased this drive, the Mach Extreme MX-DS turbo Premium edition 480GB. It's my first SSD and I was looking forward to checking out the performance. It seems pretty quick but I think there might be an issue with the drive or something. The manufacturer specs of the drive are
Max. Read Performance Up to 555MB/s*
Max. Write Performance Up to 510MB/s*
IOPS up to 85,000
Here is some results from Crystal disk benchmark.
CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 x64 (C) 2007-2010 hiyohiyo
Crystal Dew World : http://crystalmark.info/
* MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s]
Sequential Read : 497.034 MB/s
Sequential Write : 464.314 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 437.633 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 406.452 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 34.212 MB/s [ 8352.5 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 26.776 MB/s [ 6537.1 IOPS] <<<<<=====================================
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 229.104 MB/s [ 55933.6 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 228.456 MB/s [ 55775.4 IOPS]
Test : 1000 MB [C: 49.5% (221.3/447.0 GB)] (x5)
Date : 2012/06/20 18:13:29
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate Edition SP1 [6.1 Build 7601] (x64)
The problem I am having with the performance is with the 4k writes that I have pointed out above. I get roughly the same results on AS SSD as well. It worries me a little that I get nowhere near the 85,000 iops and it worries more that I haven't seen any benchmark results showing the 4k writes slower than the 4k reads.
Nothing that I have tried has improved the situation. Things I have done
Tested with write cache enabled and disabled.
changed ports and cables
ACHI is enabled in the bios. (it's an Asrock Z68 extreme 4 gen 3 motherboard)
It's a fresh install of windows 7.
The question I want to ask people here is do you think there is a problem with the drive?
