Desperately need help choosing a mouse. narrowed it down to a few choices.

So, before we begin I am currently using a steelseries ikari and I'm not too fond of it. For some strange reason for being an ergonomical mouse, it is extremely uncomfortable for me. I play many RTS and MOBA games where they require quick movement and multiple clicks, and when I'm in action I tend to grip my mouse tightly and the ikari restricts that for me. It's a bit bulky. However, for just browsing the web and what not it is extremely comfortable. Another HUGE annoyance about the ikari is the clicks; they're way too light and don't really give a tactile feedback. As too my logitech G9 where the clicks were much too stiff and my hand began to fatigue after using my g9 for quite awhile.

Anyways, I am currently looking at the zowie ec2 evo, zowie am, steelseries sensei raw, and the steelseries kana.

What my top priorities are when it comes to picking a mouse is comfort and the clicking feel. My ikari feels slightly too large as well as my intellimouse 3.0 just to give you an idea of how big my hands are. The ikari clicks are far too light and my G9 clicks feel too stiff. the clicks on my intelimouse 3.0 however feel absolutely perfect. Not too stiff, not too light but very tactile.

I do care about the sensor, but how I see it is as long as it supports 800-900 dpi and works, than that's good enough for me.

Also, I love modding so changing switches is okay with me.

And just for personal knowledge, does anyone know what kind of switched the ikari, the G9, and the intellimouse 3.0 come with?

I would say take a look Razer and see if theres any mouse they make that you like.
I have the Razer Imperator 4g myself and it is the best mouse i have ever had i recommend it highly and i play a lot of RTS and FPS games i never had any problems with mine in fact i am playing World In Conflict with it right now

I'd stay away from Razer stuff, personally. I've had bad experiences, many others have had bad experiences. If you really like the look, go for it, but I don't recommend it.

IMO, take a look at the CM Storm Spawn, or maybe a R.A.T. I've got a RAT 7 and everyone who has used it has remarked it for being extremely comfortable even though it looks really odd.

The main thing about the RAT is that the clicking feels absolutely great.

Out of your choice the Zowie AM should be the best.
Kana hasnt the best switches, Zowie AM has better ones but both are hard to press down, some people call it awesome and tactile though so its your choice. If you can mod it mod whatever switches you like to it.
I like soft buttons, especially those of my DA since i can click a LOT without fatigue, it has exactly enough tactile feedback but if you think more feedback is better go Zowie AM, DA aint an option for you anyway:)

The Zowie AM has a good sensor, good build quality and two mouse buttons.

Kana has prediction, its nothing to recommend though i own one and i can play without problems its nothing good to have prediction.

Its not, its a really crappy sensor(s) causing a lot of problems, at best your lucky or you didnt check for them.

The spawn is great indeed, the rat is not so great imo, it has some bugs and issues.

PS: i forgot to mention: Sensei is overpriced overrated crap, its too bad but its the truth:(

Agreed with the above poster, the RAT does indeed have some bugs, mine picks up minute vibrations into my desk and can move the mouse around. Easily fixed by moving any vibrating sources off the desk, though. That's the only problem I've had.

I've had razer products in the past and I've had nothing but bad experiences with them. Maybe it's just my luck, but I've gone through 2 blackwidow keyboards, a mamba, and a deathadder. So, I think for my sake I shouldn't buy another razer product. lol.

And I'll check out the R.A.T. but to be honest, it looks a bit too "ricey" for my likings.

I've also tested out a mionix naos and it's larger than my ikari so it was qutie uncomfortable.

And I heard the zowie AM switches are extremely stiff?
I personally would recommend the Kana, I love it cause its got the two side buttons which I need, its very light and the sensor isn't as bad as every one makes it out to be, its perfect for me at 400dpi and 800dpi.

But that just me but if you do go for the Kana there are a few things you have to do!
  • First thing you have to do is update it! sorts out a few issues that have been reported so this is a must! (and then after setting the DPI settings and saving it to mouse I removed the drivers biggrin.gif the steelseries engine takes about 250mb of ram eek.gif)
  • Second change the mouse feet! the standard ones are bad (that is if there still using the crappy ones from launch, some ppl have said that steelseries have changed them to the proper feet it was supposed to come with)

The next few are optional:
  • If you can change the god damn braided cable if you can, its stiff as hell and not very flexible. (im going to be buying the Dota version with the normal rubber cable as soon as possible biggrin.gif)
  • Last one personally I like the switches on it, but most prefer the Omrons which are nice as well but like you said, you don't mind changing the switches so give it a go and change if you prefer the Omrons.

If the Kana came with Omrons, a regular rubber cord and decent mouse feet it would be utter utter perfection for most imho.

And the final thing is;

As with all things its down to you and your personal preference so take your time if at all possible try the mouse before you buy it or something thumbsupsmiley.png

They must not have done that recently because the one I bought two days ago from Amazon has some HORRIBLE feet on it. Not a huge fan of the mouse overall so probably will return it anyway, so not gonna bother with replacing the feet. It's a bit too small and light for my liking.

Steelseries acknowledged that they messed up the kana feet and offer to ship out free ones to kana costumers.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1219950/free-new-feet-for-steelseries-kana

I guess they accidently used plastic instead of teflon.
