I think it's around 90 to 95°C. What temps are you seeing right now? What software are you using to see the temps?

I have an H80 with one fan installed (because my RAM heatspreaders prevent a second fan) and I idle at 32c with factory clock cpu settings. With Prime95 on Blend, I get up to about 50-55c (again with stock cpu settings). I'm wanting to get this processor up to around 4.3-4.6 GHz. I use Speccy at the moment to monitor my temperatures and I use it on my other desktop as well for monitoring.

P.S I'm about to change the direction of the fan so I am pulling in air from outside the case instead of recycling the air inside the case. I'm hoping that it will make a noticeable difference under load.

Oh, ok. I'll sit back and wait. I admit that 50-55 under load for stock is a bit high sounding.

I've got an 3820 @ 4.75GHz (125 CPU Strap / 38 multi) with an H100 (Should be within a couple of degree c), and I'm using top exhaust with a pair of Scythe 3k RPM fans doing pull, and a single (due to VRM heatsink on top of the mobo) doing push for exhaust, all running around 1.2k RPM. While at full load, it bounces between 60c and 65c with an ambient of 25c (Tested while folding on all cores, ambient of 24c according to my houses' thermostat). If it helps, my GPUs sit at 66c while not under load. If you can do Push / Pull on that H80, that'd be your single biggest asset to helping cool your CPU. If you want to mount the fan on the outside of your case, you can drop by your local Home Depot / Lowes / Rona / Generic Hardware Store Name Here, and pick up some long bolts and either cut them down (Using bolt cutters, side cutters, or most styles of wire strippers now) to the size you want.

Cheers, and good luck with the OCin'!

That was another question I had. smile.gif

I was also just thinking that if the fan is turned around, then would that be dissipating the CPU's heat into the case?

I looked on Intel's site and the thermal limit for this chip was like 66c? Surely it could take more than that confused.gif

You're right that it can take more. You see, that is the T-Case thermal specification, which means that's a thermal specification for the metal casing (the Integrated Heatspreader) that we apply thermal paste to. The cores inside generally have a maximum of about 20 to 25 degrees higher than that.

For example: the Tj. Max of the i5-2500K and the i7-2600K is 98°C. The T-Case is 72.6°C which is a difference of 25.4°C. So if I assume the same difference holds true for the i7-3820, then the Tj. Max would be about 92°C.

The Tj. Max is the temperature at which the CPU should either automatically throttle itself down or turn itself off in order to prevent damage.
