I believe C3 and C6 was auto this whole time, and that the offset voltage I believe made it lock up?

I remember I never touched C3/C6 it was always auto, but when I put offset to 0.005 it made it worse.

Or maybe it's because an offset with c3 and c6 plays with the voltage too much and lowers it too low?

According to your screenshots, C3 and C6 were set to Enabled. With these enabled, the idle voltage drops down all the way (as low as possible). With them disabled, it still drops down pretty low, but not so low that the system locks up while idling due to not having enough power. However, if you're not overclocking, then you can set the Offset to "Auto". By having the Offset voltage set to "Auto", it might make it possible to enable C3 and C6 without any risk of lock-ups while idling because the offset voltage is being handled automatically as opposed to being told to stay at +0.005V. or something.

In other words, since you're not overclocking, I think you have two ways to avoid idle lock-ups:

Leave the Offset set to +0.005V and disable C3 and C6.

Set the Offset to "Auto" and set C3 and C6 to Enabled (because the Offset would be handled automatically due to being set to Auto).

However, you should overclock so that all of these nice computer parts aren't a waste of money. wink.gif

Now when I run defaults and increase my memory to 1600mhz my pc won't underclock???

Nevermind, when I did it the second way, "Putting offset to auto and enabling c3 and c6 states, it goes down again to the lower speeds, voltages, temps."

and if I overclock I should put offset to 0.005 and disable c3 and c6 right? even though I would get higher temps frown.gif

Ok good.

Now, if you overclock using an Offset voltage, then it must be manually set. This value will be whatever your overclock needs, so it won't always be +0.005V. When using an Offset voltage, always have C3 and C6 disabled. That is, unless you have the Offset voltage set to "Auto" (because then the Offset voltage will be automatically controlled). However, "Auto" should never be used when overclocking because an Auto offset voltage will result in a core voltage that is much higher than it needs to be.

As for the higher temps: would you rather have slightly higher temps, or occasional and unpredictable lock-ups while your system is idling? wink.gif

The first one, as lock ups are a PITA. -____-

I'm using offset auto, and c3/c6 enabled.

If I was overclocking, I'd put offset to 0.005 and disable c3/c6.

Ok cool. smile.gif

If you were overclocking, you may not necessarily be able to get away with +0.005. I mean, it may need +0.010, +0.015, +0.020, etc., but still you are right: it should be manually set and C3 and C6 should be disabled. smile.gif

What temps are you getting right now while idling and while under load?

What are your temps with C3 and C6 disabled?

My temps normally are 80-95F on most of my cpu cores with c3/c6 enabled. With c3/c6 disabled my temps are like 90-95F so they shoot up a good 5-10F

but right now I need a better desk/chair and I have problems with my hands/elbows so I don't need a overclock right now. The only time I actually overclock is when it is winter or when I need it but I mean my GPU is SC or superclocked already do I don't see a point in OCing right now... but I had a 4.5ghz overclock in my settings because I tried it once and it was nice.

That's why I love these forums, since you guys are so knowledgeable of your stuff. Anywhere else, people just throw random answers.

95°F is still a low temp; it's only 35°C. wink.gif

Anyway, with the money invested in all these parts, you almost owe it to yourself to shoot for at least 4.7 GHz. I mean damn, you have the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe, the i5-2500K, the HAF 932, the Zaward Vapor 120, the G.SKILL Ripjaws, and a PSU that's built for overclocking. Not overclocking this system is almost a sin. tongue.gif

Aw.

I'm just glad that I had this privilege to help you. However, I owe this knowledge to OCN. Specifically, I owe it to this thread:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1012874/the-official-asus-p8p67-p8z68-p8z68-gen3-series-owners-club/0_100

Without that thread, I never would have figured this out. Actually, I figured it out by dealing with this problem myself. I was watching a YouTube video, it ended, I went to the bathroom, I came back, and my system was locked up. So I immediately asked about it in that thread, and that's when I learned about this C3 and C6 thing.

I love OCN.

I built it myself, nothing is overheating, I made sure everything is nominal.
Case: Coolermaster HAF 932
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe B3 (Default 1606 BIOS)
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K LGA1155 (Sandy-Bridge)
Heatsink: Zaward Vapor 120 (Dual Push-Pull Heatsink) w/ Artic Silver 5 Thermal Paste
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 570 SC (High-Flow Bracket) PCI-E 2.0 (Reference Stock Heatsink/Blower) External Exhaust
RAM: G.Skill RipJaws DDR3 1600MHZ 8-8-8-24-1T Timings (2*2GB) (4GB) Dual Channel
CD: Lite-ON DVD Drive SATA II
HDD: WD Cavair Black 750GB Sata II
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB SSD SATA III (Update firmware once, then my pc started freezing, updated again, pc froze once just now, also put in Intel RST drivers to try to fix it).
PSU : OCZ Z-Series 850W 70A on 12+V Rail (Idk if it could be my psu, I had two OCZ psu's fail on me, first one kept making pc turn off, second one actually failed completely). After 2-3 years it starts to go bad.
What do you think I should do? All my temperatures are fine, my pc uses 90-110W on idle with my surge battery backup showing the wattage pull.

I think watching how much thermal you put on the processor next time. Have you always checked the basics before updating your new hardware?
