Thinking of going SLI

Hello,

I'm thinking of going SLI since the new series of Nvidia cards are out and the price on second hand 560ti's are dropping. I've never SLI'd before so I guess, is the performance benefit worth it and is my current power supply good enough? Rig is in sig.

If it's the 1Gb version I will say no. You would have a memory issue that could cause some trouble in recent triple A's titles.
I've got the 2Gb version in SLI and I never had any issue even overclocked and battlefield 3D almost (lowered AA) maxed out with 50+fps.

I would sell the 1Gb version and buy new gen instead.
2Gb if you could find one at a decent price go ahead, you will enjoy !

Thanks, yes I have the 1GB model I believe. Battlefield 3 is the only reason I'd want to SLI because I'd like to play on Ultra. If it is best to get a new card, perhaps I'll skip this generation to get more bang for my buck later. Currently everything is running outstanding with the exception that BF3 I run on high (which is still and beauty of a game). Generally I alternate yearly between GPU and CPU/Mobo/Ram combo, obviously I just did my CPU, but thought I'd ask opinions on SLI.

You will have enough GPU power but you will be limited by your Vram.
I've played with 2x1Gb and 2x2Gb and it's day and night.

For now keep this card it does the job and when new AMD GPU come out just grab a new GPU (either new gen or GTX 6xx with reduced price by then hopefully)

To max out BF3 you need around 1.4GB of Vram, thats how much it uses on my HD7970's (3GB cards). I had a 560 Ti 1GB, went to SLI and found out i made a colossal mistake because on ultra with anti-aliasing it was stuttering and jerking around sometimes dipping to only 3 or 4fps. Do not go SLI 560 Ti's it's a big mistake.

edit: 1.4GB at 1080p

this^^

It takes up to 1.7Gb in 3D with everything maxed except AA.

Sell your card and try to find a good deal on a GTX 670

Exactly. My SLI 460's ran great on high settings and not a nudge over.

With 3D I hit about 1.7 or 1.8 depending on the map. Without 3d I see about 1.4 or 1.5.

These guys have it all right. I had an SLI 1gb 460 setup and was always out of vram in BF3. I was stuck using high settings if I wanted the game to be at all playable. The game still looks fantastic mind you, but if ultra is what you are after then just get a newer card.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I think I'll just wait to upgrade. BF3 is the only game at the moment that I cannot max out and I don't think it is worth it yet to spend the money on a 670 just for one game.
