Refence or Non-reference cards for sandwiched SLI?

Thread Starter
As stated above, I was wondering which would be better for sandwiched SLI since I'm gonna be using a mATX motherboard (Asus Maximus V Gene) for my next build.

I already purchased one Asus GTX 670 DirectCU II but if reference cards are better, I think I'm gonna go with EVGA.

Thanks all in advance. thumb.gif

Edit: side fan is not available so it shouldn't be taken into consideration.

In my opinion reference cards will do better in a situation like that because they will dump all of the heat out of the back of your case. Of course the top card will be hotter but in your situation I think reference is the way to go.

Anyone has a sandwiched reference 670s SLI setup for comparison?

According to this owner with 2x Asus 670 DirectCU, the top card hits 95C while playing BF3 and running Heaven which is totally terrible imo.

Unless your someone who HAS to match (which I do understand if someone is thumb.gif), I'd go with FTW (exhaust) for the bottom card and aftermarket (TFII, DCII, GB WF3) for the top card. Otherwise if you must match, I'd get two FTW's. I would not go reference though. Those coolers are pretty junkie compared to FTW coolers IMHO.

Yes, I'm that someone who needs to match. biggrin.gif
Anyway, I thought FTW is also a reference design? Coz if it is, I'd prefer the white EVGA reference design as it would match my theme better.

FTW uses the GTX 680 reference design and PCB
