I guess no one can complain about hard drives magically costing 2-3 times as much because of "supply and demand" hahahahaha.

You sir are one stubborn little man lol. But I love you still, I like this discussion we're having.

Getting gouged though? Enjoy your $500 580, I'm gunna play games on three screens at 60fps on my $400 670 tongue.gif

Well considering our pissy hobo apples make your apple look like an apple covered in dog excrement and vomit, then yes. We're all very happy about it.

The point is we're not being gouged. It's a price/performance ratio. We understand this and are willing to pay for certain performance. You seem to think you're entitled to a discount for some reason.

My apple might be excrement covered, but at least they tried to take care of it.

Your apples were meant for the hobos across the street. It wasn't taken care of well and they even let some of the hobos piss on it. Magically it came out pretty good, but they have BETTER, VERY well cared for apples with ZERO hobo piss on it in the lab and they refuse to sell it now because they know people will gladly buy piss covered apples.

I know you guys understand this and I'm not calling you guys stupid, but does it not piss you off [pun intended biggrin.gif] that they're holding back the good stuff? They're throwing you mid-range and charging you full price.

full price? who controls the pricing? is there some kind of pricing limit? what makes you think that it's a full price? what if they release top of the line card that you are talking about? can't they sell it for even higher price?

From a point of view of Nvidia and AMD wrt their previous generations here is how I see it. AMD gave a substantial improvement in terms of DX11 performance, compute performance, bandwidth . Nvidia improved on DX 11 performance alone , without any major bandwidth improvements and a chip which performed poorer than GTX 580 wrt compute and in some cases like DP performance poorer than GTX 560 Ti . The saving grace was power was lesser on the new GTX 600 cards. so truly HD 6900 -> HD7900 card is a decent step up in features and perf while the same can't be said of GTX 580-> GTX 680, though power is an advantage.

Ghostrider85 brings up a good point, who says GK110 was supposed to be priced at the $500 range? Look at the Radeon 7xxx series. The 6970 could be had for a little over $300 and when the 7970 came out it was ~$600. Twice the price twice the performance, but if you wanted equal performance to the 6970 you can get the 7870 for about the same price.

I think that the pricing is completely fair. And I couldn't be more satisfied with my 670. Like I said, I paid $420 for it and I paid $480 for my unlockable 6950s. When crossfire actually worked (seldom) the performance wasn't over what my 670 does now. And like I said, crossfire was crap.

The 580 -> 680 (or even 670) is still a good step up if you don't care about compute, I for one donot use compute, it was the gaming performance and the power consumption that swayed my purchase.

op, i am not sure how much you bought your 580 but today you can buy a 7870 that would almost equal your 580 in performance for much less.
