GLaDOS is recruiting new test subjects, and they might be your kids. Valve has invited educators to sign up for its “Steam for Schools” beta program, which offers a special edition of Steam featuring only Portal 2 and the puzzle maker. The idea is to use Portal 2′s mechanics to teach basic physics and spatial reasoning.

LOL @ one mod trolling another mod's news post.

On a serious note... I think this is awesome. Abstract learning styles that may appeal to the newer generation. The greatest part of these styles of teaching (Khanacademy, teachwithportals, etc.) is they're shaking up the norm. It's baffling that the one thing that stays the way it started is our education system. With all the learning and adaptation that the teachers try to teach students, the only thing constant is the lecture/listen format of it.

I know this article didn't mention it, but I think this might be a great way to get females to not only pay attention to science and math (stereotypically not what girls excel at), and also open the door to creating a less male dominated gaming scene as well. Very cool, Valve... very cool indeed. I hope my daughters get to learn on interactive platforms such as this... they're only 3 and 5 right now... let's get this rolled out in time shall we? tongue.gif

I agree, as a high school junior, we seriously need to work on innovative teaching styles. I've find my grades have reflected a lot on how 'hip' my teachers are. Every teacher who has a good understanding of teenagers or is in their 20s, I've gotten A's in since they make it more appealing and easier to understand concepts. The only classes I've ever done bad in were teachers that did the old school lecture the entire period with you taking notes, which basically just put kids asleep. One of my teachers played us some Eminem as a reference for different grammar exercises and I can say I don't think I'll forget that for a long time.

I understand your point but ATS (As They Say(its not in the Urban dictionary but I think it should be as it's a commonly used phrase)), knowledge is power. I wish I had payed more attention in my freshman math class even though it was it was difficult to parse what the professor was saying.
