Trying to find a good gaming mouse.

I currently have a Razer Lachesis, which I love except for some issues that have sprung up lately. The side buttons no longer work, my mousepad ate the feet off(I know they can be replaced, but why with other issues,) and it goes into only being able to move either up and down, or left and right a few times a day, which is getting me killed in games all the time.

I love the feel of the Lachesis and think it's the most comfortable mouse I have owned. I don't like the shape that most gaming mice have, mainly the Logitechs. I have been looking at the RAT 7, but have heard quite a few complaints about the same issues as the Lachesis, but it is my top pick atm.

Also, I cannot go into any stores and try mice out due to nobody around here but Best Buy selling gaming mice, and they don't have display models.

1. What's your grip style? I'd say Claw/Fingertip hybrid.

2. What's your sensitivity? Not really a concern, I don't need anything super fast, I usually keep my Lachesis around 3200ish however.

3. What's your maximum budget? Don't really care, I'll pay for a nice mouse, but I don't want to pay extra for things like wireless/etc if I don't need to.

4. Do you want additional buttons? This is a major point, I used all the buttons on my Lachesis, so would like to find something that at least comes close without getting into the Naga/M90/etc.

5. What games do you play? Pretty much anything. Alot of LoL and FPS's, but I want something that would be functional should I pick up an MMO again as well(again, I don't want overkill on buttons, I don't see how people can use the MMO specific mice.)

6. Do you mind about prediction? Don't really care.

Personally G400 because of price/performance, but any of these below are you're only choices because of their "flawless" sensors

From: http://www.esreality.com/index.php?a=post&id=2024663

And by flaw I mean unremovable prediction (aka angle-snapping, drift control) or acceleration, or z-axis bug, or whatever else is ****ed up for a gaming mouse in my opinion.

I'd like to make a list of these OK gaming mouses, care to help ?
So far the list is :

3 buttons :
-Microsoft WMO 1.1 (STMicroelectronics OS MLT 04).
-Microsoft Optical Mouse Blue (STMicroelectronics OS MLT 04). Out of the market.
-Razer Abyssus (Avago ADNS-S3888). (Beware : the older firmwares create a jittering issue ; as Abyssus firmware can't be updated, you have to buy a recent enough model, loaded with one of the newer firmwares which fix the jittering)
edit 11/11 : beware

5 buttons :
-Microsoft IMO 1.1 (STMicroelectronics OS MLT 04).
-Microsoft IME 3.0 (STMicroelectronics OS MLT 04).
-Razer Deathadder 3G (Avago ADNS-S3668). (you may have to update the firmware to remove prediction)
-Razer Deathadder 3.5G (Avago ADNS-S3888). (you may have to update the firmware to fix a jittering issue)
So far odds are DA 3G sensor > DA 3.5G

7 buttons :
-Cooler Master Storm Spawn (Avago ADNS-3090). (Jittering fixed since firmware 30a ; high LoD fixed by firmwares 31 and 32, but it may have introduced some tracking issues with certain surfaces . Note : CM's tech team seems pretty active.)
edit 18/01/12 : beware

8 buttons :
-Logitech G400 (Avago 3095)
Important : The first generation of G400 are shipped with an Avago 3080E sensor (or not : see here) which has prediction ; to avoid it buy a G400 with a PID above LZ13333 (located under the mouse), which packaging is different (see Chris_P -from the Logitech Team- statement here ) by having a Logitech sticker looking like that (supposedly ; good luck).

I second the G400. I bought one recently and love it. I had the MX518 previously and the G400 is a noticeable improvement.

If you can pick up an Imperator for cheap, consider that. The sides tend to get grimy if your hand sweats, but this is the perfect mouse for me.

Originally had a DA, when it went bad I got a RAT 7 which I sold because it was far too heavy for me and made my wrist sore after an hour or so of use. Imperator is a smaller mouse, and feels great for my hybrid grip

The most buttons with a flawless sensor is the G400.
Theres no if there, its THE mouse you should buy if you care about performance and buttons, also its kinda cheap:)

Imperator is crap compared to the really good sensors, DA oder Abyssus are the razer mice to consider but both dont offer the button count.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately it seems the only decent mice are terribly uncomfortable to me. I wish there was a local store around here that sold gaming mice so I could buy one to test out and return if I don't like it.

I'm looking for a long and low mouse. The Logitechs and similar shaped mice are too high in the center for me and gives me really bad cramps.

I guess I'm going to either have to get another Lachesis, or give the Rat a try. They both use the same sensor don't they?

If you like low mice...check out the Roccat Kova+. It may be too short for you if you like the Lachesis, but it's one of the lowest mice I've had a chance to use. It's pretty sweet.

Yea, I'm looking at the Taipan, I may just wait for that to come out and use what I have now to grab a new mousepad. I really like those freaking gigantic ones that cover most of your desk.
