Been looking at buying a laptop for a few months now, but decided to hold off until Trinity & Ivy Bridge were with us. My budget is only £450, but by the look of it I can get quite a lot for that. Basically, from reviews & benchmarks, I formed the opinion that an Ivy Bridge chip in budget would be an instant win, as would an A10 AMD Trinity. Down from there, I've looked at i5 Sandy Bridge's, A8 Llano's (with dual graphics in budget), and other combinations. I'd dismissed Llano though, as the CPU side is too weak for me (I'll be doing music production on this laptop, so need a bit of muscle coupled with as many threads as I can get). I'd also dismissed Sandy as the GPU side was too weak. This would logically leave Ivy Bridge, with it's boosted GPU performance, or Trinity, with it's bolstered CPU performance. Unfortunatly, I've been unable to find a laptop with either within budget for sale in the UK, and I'm not willing to wait until Christmas for the next round of Ivy Bridge chips (the theoretical money is burning a hole in my pocket now!)
It was a stroke of luck that led me to this laptop - http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5750G_1086985.html
A Sandy Bridge with dedicated GPU, therefore alleviating any worries I had with the HD3000's mediocre performance. The 6Gb RAM is a nice touch too
My only slight concern is that it's the slowest i3 SB you can get, but should still be pretty quick? I mean, I used to produce on my old desktop rig - an E6700 OC'd to 3.2GHz, and this i3 (with HT) should have the same kind of performance hopefully?
What do you think?

It's still a strong CPU @2GHz. Better an a Phenom II X3 720 and better than an E8600 according to CPUmark
