Cannot get Corsair vengeance 1866mhz to clock at 1866mhz 2 x 4GB

See below for updated system spec, same problem still persists (because i do not know what to do)

Sorry for reviving! Thought it was better than making a new thread.

I'm really sorry to revive an old thread! But I have good reason.

I left this issue out because it was driving me nuts for months, but now i have the Fx-8350 on my board.

I'm still having the issue where the clock speed is still set by memtest to 1333, if i choose the 1866 option (which was not there before) I can get to the windows boot screen then I get the lovely BSOD.

I have not changed any timings or running any manual overclocks though this is something I want to do in turn with getting my Memory to run at the advertised speeds.

What timings should i use with this memory?
What overclock is good but stable to achieve this?

New system specs:

MOBO: Asus Sabertooth 990fx rev 1
CPU: Amd Fx-8350
GPU: HD radeon 6870 triple slot
HDD: 2x 1TB WD black
Artic cooler accelero rev 7 (covers up DIMM 1) if this is a big issue, I am moving to water block soon.

Original Post below.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I have a Asus Sabertooth 990fx motherboard, And Corsair vengeance 1866Mhz RAM

but I cannot get the RAM to clock at that speed, in the BIOS settings there is no option for 1866, only 1333, 1400, 1600

My system specs are as following:

AMD Phenom II 965 FX-8350
XFX Radeon 6870
Asus Sabertooth 990fx
XFX 750w PRO Power supply
Corsair 1866mhz 2 x 4GB

I am only able to use DIMM 2,3,4 as my headsink Artic freezer 7 pro rev 3 covers the first DIMM

I'm not sure if this could be the reason, but when i first built my system i had the stock cooler on and had the ram in DIMM 1,2 and still had the same problem.

currently my motherboard is overclocking the CPU. it is not a black edition, it is at 3.5ghz instead of the stock 3.3

I used to have a Phenom II 955 on an older Mobo and i could get that to hit 4Ghz. but i cannot seem to get the 965 to hit 4ghz.

If anyone knows how to overclock well with this UEFI bios and can tell me how to get the proper speed out of my ram and also get my CPU as close to 4Ghz as possible.

I will be so greatful!

Thanks in advance.

Change the multiplier on the ram?

if you are overclocking with a non BE your changing the ref clock from 200mhz.
this also changes the clock for RAM, NB and HT
You should have x5 x7 and x10 for the ram(i think)

that's really odd since the board supports 1866

Apprently unless you have a FX chip or a hexcore the board doesn't give you the 1866mhz option

I have read on tomshardware that if i want to be able to use 1866 I need to overclock my NB to 2799

apparently goes as following:

Memory speed = NB speed
1333 = 2000
1600 = 2400
1800 = 2700
1866 = 2799
2000 = 3000

well if you have to overclock the nb to get 1866 qand you get lucky and the chip runs at 1866 as the 965 only supports 133 so you be real lucky i think to get it to run that but the 965 if has no problem running 2800 on the nb or very close to it but the 9XX chips like to run at a little slower ram speed but nice tight timings so try to get as close to 1866 and tightin the timings what is the timings in your ram and the vlots is it 1.5 or 1,65 is it is 1.65 you can up it to 1.7 if you need but if there 1.7 you my not want to push it that high. i run mine at that but i ahve a spare set if anything did happen. so like i said up your nb to start 2800 @1.4 and see if your stable if so drop volts and bit and try agian. after you have that to 2800 or close work on the ram timings. only change one at a time so you know witch one fails and just drop it by one

one more thing leave the timing on auto to start so it can set them higher if it needs.

if i am wrong on anything some one correct me

Your ram needs to be in A1 and B1 or your gonna have issues.
I dont think NB has anything to do with ram speed.
I have mine at 2400 and the ram is still 1333

Also this board defaults to 1T and it should be 2T, I'd look there also.
You might get away with it on A2 and B2 but it's 50/50 chance.
If you bump the cpu bus to 233 @1600 memory frequency you will have 1866 but you will have to set you timings to 10-11-10-36 2T
Your cpu at 17X is 3961mhz
