[IGN] EA's Peter Moore: Free-to-Play is an "Inevitability" - Page 3

I'll stop[ playing games if this is the case.

Free2Play can kiss my behind. There's just no excuse for it other than the bucket loads of cash they expect to make form all the idi9ots buying items that last a week and such.

No-one actually WANTS to have to perform micro transactions in a game. They just put up and deal with it (which si the problem, imho) no, most people would prefer a demo and a one off purchase of the game.

LOL I can see where EA is gonna go with this.
You will get the next butchered game for free, but you will have to pay dlcs to unlock the rest of it. Exactly how they will compare this to The Gap stores.

That is a scarey thought...EA could start doing this with their non-MMO games.

"Get level one for free, and for only $15 you can buy level 2! Same for level 3! The final boss battle is on sale right now and if you act fast you can see how your game ends for only $19.99!"

The pay to play is working OK...not great, but OK(from of player view point), in the MMO world. At least with games like Lord of the Rings Online. This model would be a disaster for single player games, but we already been seeing it in the form of DLCs. I don't think it is out of hand yet, but it seems to me that DLCs are becoming more like pay to play and less like expansions with each instance of them.

i feel that, depending on exactly how it is implemented... this could be a good thing or a bad thing. its good in the way that more people would be able to play the games they want and it would stomp out some piracy.... but its bad in the sense that depending on what exactly you have to pay for can totally unbalance the game and make it less fun even for the people who do indeed pay. this is something that i feel will need much more market research to ever be able to be successfully implemented. i wouldnt mind making the initial purchase of an mmo game if i didnt have a monthly subscription to pay for as well. on the same hand i wouldnt mind purchasing a few items from the in game store here and there to enhance the looks or skills of my character. they just need to make sure that they dont balance the game too heavily toward people who buy their items or what not, and instead only make it to where you can purchase things sooner than you would find them through regular gameplay, or purchase things that slightly raise certain stats. in order for this model to work properly, all players must be able to get enjoyment out of the game.

If you think consolegaming is bad for PC games. These f2p games are not good looking. They are developed to run on as many systems as possible and having a GTX690 with a 2.5k resolution screen will get you nowhere. It'll still look bad but then with 350fps.

I just had some food for thought!! (sorry to not quote the rest of your quote) Can you imagine pirates pirating the paid DLC for F2P games afterwards when it becomes too unfair?

This is everything wrong with the world today. Making fun games for people to enjoy isn't the objective...only money.

Yeah. Every game becomes a cash cow and even the little things have a pricetag slapped on them. Not my thing. I can smell such titles a mile off. BF3 for example, is turning down that road.

I've played alot of games in my time, and all the ones i remember most fondly are the ones that have a passion for innovation and story telling, the emphasis isn't on making money, it's about making a good game - which will naturally sell.

When priorities shift to simply turning a profit, the product suffers. It's a delicate balance.

Pay 2 Win

Indeed.. Thats how they end up, You get better items, with special stats if you pay real money.

F2P MMO's look liek crud because most MMO's are still built on DX9 engines lol

But I still dont mind a Cutsey Anime looking game like Eden Eternal

That game has some serious innovation in it, the fact that you can level any class in teh game with 1 character is very interesting, and makes for great gameplay because much easier to find a Healer, Tank and a DPS< Because most of us can play them all lol (when you start out however, there is a Heroic Trait you choose, which will gie you a boost for either Magic User, Healer, Tank, DPS etc)

I wish other MMO's allowed me to do that haha, id Love to take my Healer Sorc, WOOSH now im a heavy armor clad Tank that I spent the time leveling an dgearing, WOOSH Now im a LEather wearing Assassin that I leveled and geared, Fun game, but gets old in th ehigher levels, like all F2P Games =)
