It was announced a year ago: https://share.sandia.gov/news/resources/news_releases/cooler/

It's pretty old, Frosty tech had it on their site last year.

Yes, and when it vibrates loose, it drills a perfect 120mm fan hole in the side of your case on the way flying out.

That cooler looks nothing like a watermelon.

Well if they prove it performs well against the titans (D14, SIlverArrow, H80/H100), this would be quite something, I mean as small has an Intel stock cooler, probably has cheap to make and most likely quieter, would make quite the impact in the pc cooling industry, but I'll only believe it when I see it =P

They claim it's quieter than a fan. Also I'd assume it would be balanced properly so as not to vibrate.

The most interesting aspect of the cooler is that it doesn't attach directly to the CPU using thermal paste—which isn't possible given it's always spinning. Instead, it sits a mere thousandth of an inch above the processor, which creates what's called an air bearing that's actually just as efficient at transmitting heat.

I have a hard time believing this, that sounds more like an insulating barrier than a thermal conducting interface. This would need some kind of lubricated TIM that won't break down with heat and constant spinning.

HDD quieter than a fan too
but some people cannot stand the vibration noise from it.

it's not that simple to reduce the vibration problem.
