i meant imagine a gpu water block .with say a cap on it!fill then close it it is self contained!then add this thing to it and that is it!

It would be the same as one of those crappy AIOs that try to imitate a tower CPU cooler. It wouldn't perform very well as a watercooling unit.

Yeah I'm a big skeptic at this point - the 30x performance bit is a tad outrageous to be honest.

Hehe if you think about it. Most CPU coolers max out around 70*C so if it was 30x better then wouldn't it be sub-ambient temps?

This has been a concept for years and shot down by physics time and time again. xtremeforums shot holes in this idea so many times every time it was posted.

More like % 30 better... Really neat idea but as said over and over not redundant enough.
Cpu would smoke with seconds if you were working and then suddenly the cooler failed.

Nope, you forgot the sliding scale. The zero point on your graph would be ambient, not zero.

Regardless, the 30x does seem a bit outrageous.

Hmm, Intel and Amd would need to actually make flat internal heat spreaders on their CPUs to make this work. If the thickness is greater than that specified on one spot, it would get zero cooling there. I've had lots and lots of concave CPUs. I would lap cpus however if this lives up to their claims.

For those of you saying that your mobo would have to be mounted horizontally-

https://ip.sandia.gov/techpdfs/Sandia%20Cooler%20presentation.pdf
Quote:
Q: Can the device be mounted in any orientation?
A: Yes—the air bearing assembly is held together by magnetic attraction (between the stator and permanent-magnet rotor).

Edit: Here's a thorough white paper that goes way more in depth about the whole thing-

Perhaps CPU manufacturers will start making CPUs without heat spreaders again if this cooler lives up to its claims and becomes the de facto standard of cooling since the heat spreader will impede heat transfer between the CPU and the cooler.

I have no doubt that i can transfer the heat, I was asking how it would work with the "air bearing". Does this shearing effect that gives the benifit to the spinning, work between the base and sink, too? If so, how effecient is it? Why does the air transfer more heat than before?
