[Giz] Brilliant Spinning Heatsink Cools CPUs 30 Times More Efficiently - Page 7

There was a heatsink like this in the news section awhile ago, except it was a solid chunk of copper instead (okay, it was copper fins arranged in a circle. So what? tongue.gif).

This is a nifty concept. I wonder how well it performs compared to the higher end heat sinks. And something about having a large metal spinning disc above my graphics card...... rolleyes.gif

so are talking power consumpton then?

the fans on heatsinks dont use that much power do they?

Ty for link. Ok now i understand. Yes the cooler can be mounted any way because the brushless motor is doing the job of keeping it in place till the air gap is self regulated to spec.also the base glue like a regular cooler to the cpu.in said base coolant and other stuff is in there.this is the main thing doing all the work.and yes i believe this might actually work.and for the 30x thing read the link.it isnt what we think lol.but i can live with the w/m-k cooling number they show.if i am righ they re using the magnetism effect of the motor to do a circulation effect in the base.wow this cost almost nothing to make

Ps:heat exchanger surface area size is where they get their 30x (400cm2 vs 12000cm2)

Hahahahaha.

Hahahahaha.

Yep, if this works it'll likely make a far greater impact on air conditioners than CPU heatsinks.

Hehe if you think about it. Most CPU coolers max out around 70*C so if it was 30x better then wouldn't it be sub-ambient temps?

Nope, you forgot the sliding scale. The zero point on your graph would be ambient, not zero.

Regardless, the 30x does seem a bit outrageous.

Not true when 0 is not the lowest you can go.

I can't believe some of you discount the work these guys have done when they have mechanical engineers and computational fluid dynamics systems at work tweaking and refining the end product. It's not hard to do a test on a static heat plate to determine it's efficiency. Even if they're only 50% accurate as far as the 30x improvement in efficiency, that's 15x more efficient than our current heatsink designs. Have some faith guys...
