Cm quikfire pro - red switches vs quikfire rapid - black switches?

My razer blackwidow ultimate is acting funny, the enter key has a clanky metal sound and a few keys are starting to loose there mechanical click already and just stay pressed down.

I guess I should have listened to all the people saying razer's build quality is terrible, lesson learned I guess.

So It's between two keyboards now the cm storm quikfire pro and the rapid.

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coolermaster-storm-quickfire-pro-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-with-partial-red-led-backlight-on
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coolermaster-cm-storm-sgk-4000-gkcc1-quickfire-rapid-mechanical-cherry-mx-gaming-keyboard

So in terms of build quality etc what would you recommend, I know one is a smaller sized one but that doesn't bother me I am more concerned about the build quality.

I think in the uk we are bound to red switches in the quikfire pro.
Also for the rapid we are bound to black switches in the uk.

So quikfire pro with red switches or rapid with black switches.
Better choice?

You know what switches razer uses? Its CherryMX switches. If they loose ANYTHING its due to the CHERRY build quality, nothing else...(and cherry doesnt do bad switches).
If your Enter key makes a metal sound go to geekhack and check out what you can do, some grease or tape work wonders and its no issue thats related to Razer.

If they keys stay down you managed to spill soda(dirt?) over it or something alike, if you didnt that shouldnt happen and if its within warranty just RMA it.

Again because you are in QQ-mode and wont notice it: NONE OF ANY ERRORS THAT OCCUR WITH SWITCHES(cherry mx) ON MECHANICAL KEYBOARDS ARE RELATED TO THE BRAND.
Filco use the same switches as steelseries and razer and all the others.
The only thing that can be different is the keycaps and there even filco doesnt use the "good" ones.
The whole build quality thing is related to stuff like plate mounted switches, thicker/harder plastik for the case so its not twisting and such things.
If you check geekhack you will see that the BW has a good buildquality.

Click there for advice how to fix your switches and stop qqing about the wrong stuff.

For your question: Reds is what you will like after blues.

Get the Rapid w/ whatever switches you choose. The Pro is not even in the same league as the rapid is when it comes to build quality. I personally have two Rapids w/ Reds on both...one for my office and one for at home. I tried the Pro and it's pretty bad. If you want a full sized CM Storm board, go with the Trigger. It comes with Browns only at this time. The Trigger and the Rapid are both made by Costar, which is pretty much the top of the line when it comes to mechanical boards so stick with one made by them and you'll be pleased.

Lol who are you to tell me what is wrong with my keyboard since you have not touched nor seen it.

I am returning it as the keys stay pressed down and do not work, a few more keys have went that way today, and no ofcouse there is no dirt or soda on it as I have had it for a few days.

Oh and I paid £110 for this keyboard, why should I have to take it apart and fix the switches myself after paying all that? rolleyes.gif

As I said bound to the switches in my original post, it's either rapid with black or pro with red switches.
Not sure which switches out of the two.

I would go for reds, since I hear blacks are frequently cited as being "tiring" due to their increased force required to actuate the Cherry switch.

I use dasKeyboard silent (cherry browns) and I say they are the best for anything! smile.gif

You want the rapid, but not with blacks. If you do any sort of typing on it, the blacks are the wrong switch for that.

Take the extra time to track down a rapid with browns or reds.

Also, the other poster wasn't lying to you. They all use the same switches, so it's not a razer build quality issue. If you paid that much, you should RMA. If the RMA period is over and you're still concerned with the money you paid for it, fix it yourself to continue getting your money's worth.

I have a Blackwidow, and she works like the day I bought her. I've only taken her apart as of late because I wanted to do a real good clean on it, as well as use some Plasti Dip to get rid of the gloss black and replace it with matte.

Talk to each other in a civil manner.

I like reds switches. CherryMX switches are standard switches supplied by one supplier Cherry to a bunch of other brands. There will be slight manufacturing variances between each individual switch.

No one reading what I said? >_>

Only had it for 3-4 days ofcourse I can still take it back and it wasn't purchased online it was from my local pc hardware store.
Going to go back today get me £110 back and then go online and grab the rapid/pro.

Anyways sorry I shoudn't have even said anything about the black widow.

All I wanted to know was what is the better switches/build quality between the two I listed, ty for all the feed back thumb.gif

So the general opinion is red switches, hmmmm I can either hunt far and wide for a rapid with red switches. Or get the pro with the red switches.

Or well I could just plain switch the keyboard for another blackwidow ultimate, since the few days I have been using it I have LOVED it.

Was really sad and bummed out when the "c" key stopped clicking, that was the main reason I bought this one over the other mechs in the first place was the audio feedback!
