The Cooler Master mechanical keyboards come with cherry blue and reds. They are about 80 dollars and have media keys, but they don't have macro keys. There is also the Razer Black widow that has both macro and media keys, but they only come in blues.

You can substitute macro keys with stuff like autohotkey, automator and a LOT of other tools for exactly that.

Corsair K90 has all he wants, its a tad more expesnive though, i doubt theres a board for 80$which has backlighting and aint crappy:)

Whats special about it that you mention it? biggrin.gif

PS: you friend choose the wrong approach, he should think about which swich type, then if he wants tenkey, then about the keycaps, then about stuff like mediakeys/backlighting:)

Not many mech keyboards exist for 80$ with anything decent - the closest you can get is a CM Storm keyboard, which comes in either Cherry MX Blue or Cherry MX Brown. The closest thing I can find that would be of any use is this, Leopold Linear Touch "Otaku" Keyboard (no printed keys) which has Cherry MX Red switches, which are extremely light and a quick responding key - the same kind used in the Corsair K60 and K90. It's often regarded as a gaming switch, but not as great for typing. You and your buddy should check out this page Leopold Keyboards at Elitekeyboards to see if a certain switch type or price point would fit him. Good luck with your search!

None of these keyboards have backlights or macro keys though - they are pretty barebones but they are really well built and a great starting mech. All (decent) fullsize mechanical keyboards with backlights will run around 120$, give or take 10 or 20 bucks.
