Need help with a gaming PC build.

Thread Starter
My current computer is about 5 years old. It was good at the time, it has a 9700 Radeon, AGP. But now it glitches so badly in games. I dont want to replaced the videocard because I want to switch to PCI-E. But first off my budge is $1000. I want a decent computer so i can play counter strike source on high settings. and also other games that are coming in the future.

Help would be appreciated.

Chozart, I challenge you to a duel

I am going to assume we are talking tower only? No monitor, keyboard, etc? OK, good

Well, this one is a little over budget at $1057 after Rebates and before shipping, but it's a sweet rig if I do say so myself. Very enviable.

CPU: Core 2 Duo E6400: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115004
Mobo: Gigabyte DS3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128012
RAM: 2 x 1GB G Skill: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098
Video Card: ATI x1950PRO (just like me): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102061
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700W: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002
Hard Drive: 250 GB Western Digital: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701
Case: Cooler Master Centurion: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068
Optical Drive: Samsung 18x DVD-RW: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151136

If you already have a Hard Drive, Optical drive, and case you can re-use, you'll be well under budget and have a great PC that will certainly play CS: Source just fine

Yeah I just need the tower. Can I get some more suggestions?

And also I would like to get an AMD processor, and nVidia videocard, and case by lian li. I kinda know alittle bit there is to know about computers but not exactly sure how they all work out together without issue.

That's the best budget build I could do that's SLI capable, I'm sure you can choose a smaller Hard Drive and save your self around 20 bucks but hell, that's a pretty damn good budget/performance build right there.

This rig would also love to be overclocked

I don't get why you selected an SLI-ready Power Supply but not a Motherboard?
