First Switch On - Sparks & Smoke

Thread Starter
Set up a new rig for the first time - everything was put together & plugged in correctly.

Plugged the PSU (Corsair HX750) into the surge protector and POP - spark and smoke flew out the back. Did I blow my PSU, or was this thing just faulty from the get-go?

Only thing that comes to mind is some kind of power surge from the "surge protector" that may have blown a fuse or something in the PSU.

Thanks for the help... Also, just looking for ideas as to what may have happened - I don't have a second psu to swap out and test, yet.

Yeah you probably blew your psu. It was probably the surge protector.

I would blame the PSU. Unless it's one of those $7.99 cheapo power strips. I've had the PSU in my primary rig blow sparks out before, although it still works, somehow...

Most likely the surge protector. The HX series PSU's are great and reliable. I doubt it would blow, but hey anything can happen.
