Individual core performance is more important right now, mostly because games aren't coded as well as they could be for multiple cores.

I don't doubt it.  I picked up one at MC yesterday, and have been pleasantly surprised with how well it's keeping up with my GTX670.  If Intel made an i3 2100k for $10 more than the 2100, that would kill at gaming.  These all ready do a pretty good job as is.  The only game I've noticed some significant slowdown is Crysis 2 but that's with everything maxed, and I bet if I could OC this to 5.0ghz it wouldn't be an issue.

I really wonder why they haven't made an unlocked dual core. A 2120k or something would be awesome for budget gaming rigs.

AMD is just cheaper at this point. Trinity has better onboard graphics, and lower power consumption. That's about all AMD has to offer. Making killer notebooks at the moment though.

Whose "everyone"? Tom's used to rank the i3 about the same as the top Phenom II's

And in this current chart they're ranked higher.

mostly because everyone would overclock it to 5GHz or higher, my old i3 530 even did 4.5Ghz and that was on 1156.
