A 2500k is $199.99 from NXIC with free shipping.
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 PRO3 GEN3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($104.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $304.98
(Prices include shipping and discounts when available.)
Plus if you live near a Microcenter you can get the 2500k for 169.99 and get $50 off a motherboard.

And you will very very likely run into problems or performance issues if you do not do a fresh install of windows whether you get another AMD or go Intel.
lolwut?

The OP made that post, too. He was wondering if those 3 go together, but I do agree with you on the 2500k.

It seems to me an Intel build would be cheaper..and much better for gaming
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138344 $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 $220

A decent AMD mobo is around $150+
and cpu=anywhere from $120 to $180

My 2cents.gif\

Replace the current problem child...the Mobo with:
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7 or GA-990FXA-UD5, Asus Crosshair V Formula or Sabertooth 990FX, ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional
all are above current budget but...
Keep the CPU for a bit
get a new cooler to help with OC
Pick up some new ram for the new board... replace the 2x2 @1333 with some 2x8 or 4x4 @1866+

Wait and replace the CPU either next generation, or when you have a bit more $$.
I would also look at getting into an SSD. Their prices have been falling like a rock over the last 6 months.

That would be my upgrade path for your current situation.

Edit.
If you are dead set on a new CPU for this build the fx4170 has been catching my eye for a while.

When the OP gives a budget, and then proceeds to say that he wants the most fps for his budget, why would you even consider getting bulldozer?

This has nothing to do with AMD vs Intel and everything to do with the OP wanting the most gaming performance for his budget. It would be nice if people on this forum would forget about who's name is on the product and worry more about helping people on these forums, cause I know I needed help back in the day and I would have wanted to get the best bang for my buck, instead of finding out later that I could have gotten something better for my budget.

I just have no clue why people side with a name instead of actual performance numbers.......(you would be telling me that if AMD was on top and I bought Intel)

This is my last post in this thread, so I will shut up now.

I would put more into the board than the processor. No you don't have to re-install windows when you switch motherboards, although it is recommended. I've done it countless times.

I agree completely that the i5 is about 10 % faster, having said that in terms of FPS that is generally measured with a nvidia card, from the benchmarks I have seen the Bulldozers certainly reduce that gap when used on Radeon graphics cards.

My advice would be to invest your money in a better mobo like the sabertooth 990fx or crosshair formula v, save your money where you can and look at a piledriver when they come out, I am still running a Phenom 2 1090t with no issues, my brother is running a very similar system but with an i7 2700 and in all honesty I have used his machine and he has used mine and we can't tell the difference.

PS my above comment is not to start an intel/amd fan debate it is purely based on my experience, maybe I need glasses forgive me...

for a single card yes but for a multi card, i guess 1090t would be a bottleneck. just my opinion though.
